Militancy dropped by 50% in 2012: J&K Police (had dropped by 47% in 2011)

I think we are not giving enough credit to pakistan for turning the terror tap off.

The Pakistani side has done NOTHING to help. Better border fencing, high tech equipment and improved security techniques by Indian security forces has lead to this decrease and the later have paid a high price in blood. We should be under no illusion, if the Pakistani side could get people into the valley to create mischief they WOULD.

I am waiting for the day when the militancy is no more and the resettlement of Kashmiri Pandits in Kashmir happens

I for one do believe the decrease in militancy in Kashmir is the direct result of pakistan's preoccupation with Wot and internal issues. Let's hope the increased scrutiny of pal army and isi globally will deter them from starting their mischief again.

Agreed..But let us also give credit where it is due...the increased and efficient patrolling along the LoC by the Indian Army and suppperb intelligence network of the RR and JnK police.

Pakistan Army's pre-occupation with its western borders has a significant role in the reduction of militant activities in J&K.

It was not a wilful action though..they were rather forced to do it due to the GWOT and due to the increasing trouble by the Pashtun and Baloch tribes on the western front

I don't think border fencing makes a big difference.
I mean why would a militant just cross the border casually with Indians in the way?
J&K area is very mountainous. Just like Afghanis come to Pakistan through secret passages/routes using the landscape, i pretty sure the very same method of getting though is done on your part of issue.

well at least you guys admit that now its not pakistan supporting any movement in the region...
so it's clear that the kashmiris themselves want azaadi. they have dropped the gun...but they have picked up the stone...they may be unarmed but their voices cannot be silenced...they haven't given up their cause.

the only Kashmiri's that want independence are from the Kashmir valley ISI supported groups like LeT and JeM are still active since they receive arms/training from ISI and covering fire from Pak army in infiltration bids.

They dropped guns and resorted to stones because due to the work put in by the Indian army, weapon and cash flow from the other side has dropped significantly. You are making it sound as if they switched from guns to stones as part of some tactical move. Now let the 200 remaining ones keep pelting stones for all eternity - the rest of the 32 million kashmiris will go on with the business of daily life. The voices of these stone pelters may never be silent, but will never be particularly interesting either for anybody - just a distraction for other people going to work or school.

Otherwise, dropping the gun and picking the stone doesnt make any sense, does it? Surely they cant take kashmir away with stones when they couldn't do it with guns before? Or is it part of some brilliant tactical mastery that will confuse all the Indian army personnel? Why exactly do you think they made this move, of changing to stones?

Congratulations to Raw, IB, Indian Army for cleaning the garbage from Jammu and Kashmir!! Congratulations to J&K & its people too!!

Good job done by our Army and J&K police. It soon to say this...But it seems we have broken the ideology of forcing separation through militancy. Even Pakistan as a state is not interested in this ideology anymore. Only " Charity " organisation within pakistan still bark about bleeding India.

Let us wait and see what happens...Like we eradicated Polio, we will eradicate terrorism. After that go after the Maoists.
