its not the pilots, its the old a$$ engine that fails to work everytime!
It is the pilot, close to half of all Mig-21 crashes were do to pilot error mainly because of India's lack of trainers, now factor in that the Mig-21 is a very difficult aircraft to fly and you will have many crashes. Many more crashes can be contributed to poor maintanance, bird strikes, and poor quality spares, but yes the engines are old. People also neglect to factor in that all of the Mig-21 crashs occured over more than four decades of operation. Old aircraft such as early Mig-21's, F-16, Mirages, and Mig-29's had a much higher attrition rate when they were first introduced because many of the systems were unreliable, with time certain components of the aircraft were upgraded or completely replaced, once this happened the attrition rates dropped dramatically.
