Metro Train Pact Today

@Chak Bamu

To add in my last post:

The right way is to build metro in several years. Not like 1 year where you have funds issue. Lahore Bus service was built within a span of 1 year hence putting loads of burden on the provincial budget. But if they were to complete the same project in 5 years, that's like 20% of the funds each year and wouldn't have hurt anybody. But Punjab government wanted to use Lahore Metro as Election slogan so they did it in unfair manner

If Orange Line of Lahore Metro would cost 1.6 billion dollars, Imagine you make the metro in 5 years. That's only 320 million dollars per year, Even the Federal Government could allocate part of it, The World Bank/IMF any organisation would contribute part of it and that 30 billion - 70 billion rupees of Metro Bus service could be diverted for underground project. The funds issue would have resolved easier than it sounds.

.
This is start, after Lahore Metro Bus now other 5 big Punjab cities will get metro bus. Similar thing will happen here but its much more expensive with metro trains. Lahore GDP is much much bigger then any other city in Punjab, so its expected at first they will get these projects.

As i said - I am not in favor of Subsidized Projects as at the ends it's common man who have pay for these subsidies. I am not against the project but the subsidy. Why people of one city (no matter Lahore or Multan) should be subsidized on expense of others?

In this way development will not happen at all. Who do you think live in Lahore? People who once used to be rural citizens and now urban.

If im not wrong metro bus in Lahore and rw-islambad is financed by provincial goverment. While metro train with Chinese loan, much better this way.

Sir aaap aiivaiiin tasub-zadaa Punjabi haiiin tabhii Sindh key bareii mein koiii achiii baaat nahin kar raheiii !

Butt sahib. On my return i will be living in Lahore, so i will love the development in Lahore. But subsidized projects are just stupidity, as GoP don't have oil wells, so at the end she will tax a$$es of people to collect money for subsidies.

Go back to Toba Tek Singh !

Ya phir bhateiii key tooor par yearly supply of kinnow deiin tou Lahore mein reh sakteiii hain ! :sarcastic:

You're right but I think that if subsidization can happen elsewhere than its alright if it happens here too but like always SS can't seem to manage his image properly; if this had happened alongside 2-3 mega-projects in the rest of Punjab than politicians wouldn't be able to exploit it as a 'Lahore = Punjab' thing but expecting politicians in Pakistan to have a brain is hoping for the impossible !

Taxpayers are aliens? Anyway - Last time i checked Pakistan's major income was from Indirect taxes (Sales Tax, Duties & Surcharges) not income tax. And nobody is exempted from these indirect taxes. So, come out of delusion unless PML-N have changed it upside down after coming into government.

May be but the point i am raising is,

Imagine if the construction work for Lahore Metro (underground) would have started in 2007/08 as per the original plan, It would have been partially ready by now, if not may be next year. If would have been much more feasible project with hardly any footprint over the ground just like the bus service. I see London/Paris Model much better than Turkish model.

London Underground, Overground, DLR, Tram has a yearly ridership of about 1483 million passengers. That's 123.8 million passengers per month or over 4 million passengers per day and the total population of London is mere 8.3 million. So that's like 50% of the population using one of these service everyday. All of these services hardly have any footprint on the city, some of them are under ground, other on bridges and a very small tram network. Now I have not even mentioned the National Rail Services having many stops within London and a very large network of Bus service. Buses run side-by-side but has a distinguished/reserved Lane where needed and depending upon the time period when the Lane is exclusively being used for Bus service only.

Now the point is, If Lahore had underground system instead of bus service, hundreds of thousand if not millions using the train service underneath the ground would disappear, hence reducing congestion on the main roads. Then we could start simple bus services instead of a dedicated line in middle of the city, that may or may not look nice depending upon the days.

PS: I am aware of the fact that original proposal of Lahore Metro was presented back in 1991. But I am only talking about any real efforts in this regard

Why development will not happen? The projects who can can't sustain their operations themselves will fail ultimately or eat funds of other development needs. So, instead of subsidizing the transportation in one city, why not charge optimal fares to make it profitable or at-least fulfill it's own financial obligation.

That makes it even more obvious. Then how common man getting subsidy is wrong when he is the one who is paying it one way or another....

here are no signs of any sort of development in Multan since PMlN takes power..
AUR DO PML(N) KO VOTE....
If you do, then the Capital city always gets the first right on a province's resources as it generates money faster in comparison to other cities. So the province gets it money back faster in the forms of taxes and other revenue.
POINT TO BE NOTED....:smitten:
Just after elections IK said in interview that he will not build metro bus even if federal goverment financed it. But right now looks like a part from train there is also metro bus project in planing stages. By next year Peshawar should also have metro bus.
NEWS CONFIRM HY??? ....OR RUMOR?
Faisalabad deserves it before Multan as we are twice the size of Multan in population. And above that contribute 60% of exports. Kamau beton ka pehla haq hota hay.
ISLAMABAD - PAKISTAN KI LADLI BETI HY...US KA AP SAB BHAIOOO NAY HE SOOCHNA HY.........:dance3:

I noticed only 6.5 kilometres is underground and remaining 23? kilometres over the ground? Now that's another joke. We should try to invest only once, increase the time span of 27 months to 60 months or even more. But make it truly a great underground network and not like after another 3-4 years we are rebuilding parts of it to make it underground.
