Usually I do not discuss social events but this is important. Our society does not take male rape seriously and it takes a lot of courage for a man to come out with his story.

That filmmaker, Jamshed Mehmood, a.k.a Jami’s #MeToo story shook the collective Pakistani conscious to the core would be an understatement.

In a society where it is hard enough for a survivor to call out an average gali ka lafanga (street loafer), it is unthinkable for a man to not merely reveal that he was raped but also take-on a rapist who, it is safe to assume, hails from the ranks of Pakistan’s super elites.

While recounting the harrowing account of his rape 13 years ago, Jami did not explicitly name the culprit. However he gave away enough clues for people to start putting two and two together.

Clue #1: Media giant

Clues #2 & # 3: Book and Museum launches

Interestingly, while all the leading mainstream media establishments in the country initially put out Jami’s story as breaking news, by afternoon most of them began receding.

A number of publications first took down Jami’s #MeToo story from their websites and social media platforms and then a while later re-posted a toned down version in which all the three major clues, i.e. “media giant,” and references to the rapist’s book and museum launches were either taken out from the headings and narrative or considerably downplayed.

Given the limited length of our collective attention span, it is likely that Jami’s #MeToo story would have died down on its own had the mainstream media establishments not chosen to adopt such inexplicably absurd behaviour – and that too simultaneously.
It was perhaps this knee jerk reaction by the print and electronic media fraternity that made people curious more than ever about the identity of Jami’s assailant.

In what can only be described as deeply shocking, Pakistani Twitter is alleging Dawn CEO, Hameed Haroon to be Jami’s rapist.
While no one certainly seems to have any proof to substantiate this allegation, nevertheless, there are many who feel the clues about his rapist in Jami’s tweets lead to Hameed Haroon.

While an official statement from either Hameed Haroon or Dawn Group is awaited, the staffers at Dawn seemed to be in the eye of the storm once their CEO was alleged as Jami’s rapist.

Pakistani higher courts has ruled out the case that sex with mutual consent cannt be called rape.

its like the same case that after 13 years he suddenly woke up that he was raped 13 years ago.....lols

seems like mutual consent and when the things doesnt worked he trying to be victim.

It should be investigated and legally dealt in the court. If the accused is found guilty then he must be punished as per the law.

It is very difficult for male victims to come out and share their story. I have psychologists in my family and i personally know the stories of their patients (mostly boys) who were raped or molested. It has led many to try to commit suicide. We should be very careful in choosing our words while talking about this sensitive issue. Look at comments below his thread where people are asking how a male can be raped? Another stigma attached with this is that men are looked down upon as weak humans who get raped.

I'd suggest you to watch invisible war movie, which is based on true events of rape in american military. Some 500,000 cases were reported both by men and women. A person like Terry Crew was also raped, this isn't about physical strength only it is about position and authority from where the attackers take benefit from.

I hope the investigation takes the impartial route and finds out the truth behind it and hope, if found guilty, rapist is punished in a way that people take lesson from it.

This is victim-shaming and kind of attitude why people do not come out and name and shame their rapists.

Do you know how many rape cases in Pakistan go unreported because when going through the legal route, a victim is put through so much mental trauma.

It's even difficult for male rape victims as our society does not accept male rape as a crime, it will go against the toxic masculinity that we all preach.
