These are glimpses from the era when Muslim culture in South Asia was at it's zenith.
There were "Mushaira" all night long.
There were "Baankay". and much more we forgot, or dont know and dont want to know.

Actually in old times the technology was less and those cultural event were a need for entertainment. Today television took all the physical activity away and then came the age of internet entertainment which further reduced the practical entertainment.

In those days Urdu poetry was about expression of human sentiments in a concise way in least possible words.
They did a great job at that.
We still use many of their شعر as idioms in conversation.
And it's from our own culture , instead of something imported from the west.

Also poets like Mirza Sauda

and Mir Taqi Mir
Mir Muhammad Taqi Mir (February 1723 - 21 September 1810)

played a great role in development of Urdu language which was a relatively new language in their era.
