In all seriousness, the atrocities against the Sikhs in 1984 were uncalled for and should be condemned in the strongest terms. The perpetrators of those crimes should be punished. Period.

However, on the lighter side, what started as a support for Khalistan by our Pakistani brothers immediately disappeared once Abir demanded Lahore be the capital of Khalistan (nice one Abir!) and then Deckingraj, Divya, Kutt@_Bimar and other fellow Indian members giving a fitting and humorous replies to the trolls!! And then there all this smack talk of how Pak Punjabi's are taught to HATE Sikhs!! LOL. Is that the truth? Not to mention a Cannadaaian Sikh educating on how Indian Sikhs should behave!!
Why? Pakistanis lost love for Sikhs and Khalistan with Lahore as its capital?

Its called the Anand Karaj Act. The demand has arisen because currently Sikh marriages are registered under the Hindu Marriage act.This indirectly insinuates that Sikhism is a sect/part of the Hindu religion. This is widely believed to undermine the separate, unique and independent identity of the Sikhs and Sikhism as a religion. Hence, the demand.

I personally support the demand for Anand Karaj Act. Whats's the big deal? Its not like Sikhs are asking for a separate code of laws to govern Sikh affairs.

I think the Centre is just afraid of giving the impression that its bowing to the demands of the separatists as the major voices for the Act are Akali Dal and ex-Khalistanis. And Pakistan has stoked the fire by creating a Anand Karaj act for Sikhs in Pakistan.

That would definitely create problems because marriages in our country are religious affairs. Hence, to register a marriage its essential to relate it to the religion of the people in question.

can you please enlighten like what will be the changes which will be required in the current act as per following if India is to introduce Anand Karaj Act. I mean how it will be diffrent from Hindu marrige act. I have no idea about it because as far as i thought they are almost same. May be I am wrong. Please help

I think the government should keep its nose out of all religious matters.

For marriages, people should be allowed to do whatever mumbo jumbo they want as long as the marriage is registered. Similarly for divorces, do whatever mumbo jumbo you wish to do as long as you register the dissolution of the marriage.

I doubt any one would mistake this for one religion or another.

I think the main issue is the naming of the act as Hindu Marriage act. I dont know how different the act per se would have to be in legal aspects from the current act. I think the act would just recognize Sikh marriages conducted as per SGPC guidelines. Here's more on the ceremony of Anand Karaj.

I respect your opinion but it will be great if you wouldn't call religious wedding ceremonies and hymns as Mumbo Jumbo. Its kind of offensive and insulting for the people who believe in it. In the case of Hinduism, these Mumbo Jumbo have been carried on for thousands of years. Thanks.

If its just for the name sake then i dont support it. But at any point if it goes against the religion then i am all for it. Count me in the group supporting but we already have many more things to do then to have a hoopla in parliament just for the name change if it is not going to change much and is not going to impact religious practices..
