Why mehndi patterns up to knees or over ankles?

If this is for Muslim, then Muslim women usually dont bare above the ankles. Just curious

Mehendi during marriages is a new trend in south India, before we south Indians never applied mehendi except Muslims even if applied it would be simple dots, and we even don't dance during weddings, for us its indecent.

We Sinhalese (and Tamils in the Western province) of Sri Lanka don't use them, our marriages are done either the Kandyan or western way mostly. I think Hindu Tamils in northern areas use them
