Meet the M-Zero, India's First Supercar

Lol... When Tesla start to emerge in India and CLaim the whole market with their future "cheapest cars" don't come crying about " Why no one did it bf??" .

Look it's simple. YOu have a1.2 Bil potential customers... and you choose to adress yourself to few thousand IN INDIA ( yes only india... it's not for export , be sure about that) I CALL it stupid. bc those guys have the potential and the knowledge to make an everyday electrical car, who can be cheap and available to almost everyone, for a VIRGIN market... BUt choose instead to focus on Supercar... .

Those guys IMO are only "fans" who are doing it for "pleasure" or somthing in that area... I REALLY HOPE THEY ARE LIKE THAT!! bc if not then... Well... ...

FYI: Tesla first car ( who was a sport car and not a supercar) did not sell... It's only when Elon took it under his wing with HIS " ALMOST" average car that TESLA became what we know today...
And let's be Honest... a rich one will mostly choose a supercar with an Engine than an electrical motor... so WhenI say few Thousand customers, I was optimistic... . EVen in The US they don't sell electrical supercar well... look at the i8...
Supercars in general don't sell well going by your logic- because they don't sell in the millions in terms of quantity. Otherwise there would be millions of them on the streets. Sports Cars/ Super Cars are a profitable business- thats why BMW keeps producing the I8, and are coming out with a spyder version soon. And that all other companies keep producing supercars. No company can be a "fan" and keep taking loses and producing a product. It's a profitable business. So much for your facts.
 
I don't dream up business logic. I have studied it enough to make my argument. You can continue to believe what you want. Immense infrastructure to support a few thousand, not millions of sales.
A clear examples are these:
"Make in India" model Merc GLC is still upwards of $90,000 in India on road. So much for cheaper cars being successful.

The market is very big and varied.

In a market where the entry level BMW 1 series costs $55,000, these are not cars made for masses.
Go explain to them how they are headed towards impending doom.

Electric supercars/high performance cars have a huge future, even in India. That said the companies will produce electric cars for the masses when theres a demand for it. This private company need not worry about that right now.
It's not an Indian achievement, but a private one- please keep them separate.

Don't even bother to have an argue with losers !!!
 
Forget M-Zero...check out the Racemo concept from Tata's new brand TAMO. I believe Racemo has a much higher chance of being a production car than M-Zero, with Tata's backing and design knowledge taken from Tata's subsidiary Jaguar.

As a PR move, the car has been added to Forza Horizon 3 as a free update. The actual car itself also contains software developed by Microsoft.

However these sportscars remain the exception/passion projects within the Indian automotive industry. The big money is still in churning out common passenger vehicles in quantity - and India is quickly climbing the ranks in that. As of October 2016 we were the 5th biggest motor vehicle manufacturer in the world (after China, US, Japan & Germany) and are expected to be the 3rd biggest by sometime next decade.

Exporting of vehicles from local manufacturing lines (owned & run by either local companies or international like VW) is likewise on the rise. 2015-2016 exports trends (via SIAM info) are pegged at 3.64 million (including 653k passenger vehicles, 101k commercial, 404k three-wheelers and 2.48m two-wheelers).

Oh and did I mention India remains the biggest manufacturer of motorcycles/scooters in the world? :enjoy:

Tata has said...the production model will be very close to the one showcased now...I feel it's a little underpowered...could have gone with a 2lt engine!! May be they'll offer it as a variant!!

A little dated but- Mahindra HOLO concept a compact EV sports car. Reminds me a lot of the TT and Cayman.
BTW I just found out Mahindra has majority stake in/owns (not clear) the legendary design house Pininfarina!! Thats amazing news!
 
Meet the M-Zero, India's First Supercar

The business of creating machines is more or less a dream job for most of us. Right from penning down those curves on the drawing board, to the concept, and finally, the finished product - the journey is laced with passion, creativity and that god-like feeling of creation.

On that note, let us introduce you to Mean Metal Motors - an automotive start-up which is working on India's first supercar. Yes, you read that right, our very own supercar! If the Polish, Germans, and British can make it, why not us?

Called the M-Zero, it has 4 teams from 4 countries working on turning this dream in to reality. While the teams in Portugal and Italy take care of body and styling, the UK team looks after the simulations and analysis. The remaining one i.e. the team in India, is responsible for the engine, transmission, aerodynamics, vehicle dynamics, electronics, and energy storage systems.

The M-Zero will get a light-weight carbon-fibre monocoque tub chassis, which will give provide the required rigidity. Though it will be designed by these folks at Mean Metal Motors, it will then be given to various parts manufacturers for production.

About the engine - it will be a parallel hybrid mid-engined supercar. Sarthak Paul, founder and director, said they're planning on getting either a 4.0-litre AMG V8 bi-turbo or the 4.8-litre NA V10, though the procurement process is yet to be initiated. Sarthak adds that they are targeting the 500+bhp mark for the power output.

Since this is a parallel hybrid supercar, there will be an electric motor involved. The electric motor will be capable of producing approximately 250bhp, which, in turn, will give the M-Zero a combined power tally of 750+bhp. The total torque developed will be 900Nm. So it is sorted in the power department, but what about that supercar-like feel? We are told there's a lot of thought going in that direction.

There are concepts which are being developed specifically to make the M-Zero more performance oriented. First on the list is the Crosshair - it basically acts like a vertical stabilizer that not only adds to the stability of the car, but also takes care of the aerodynamics. Still at the research stage, Sarthak says that while cornering, when the yaw comes into play, the crosshair will reduce the oversteer. However, there are a lot of details to be ironed out, and a whole bunch of simulations to be run, before we see this working in real-world conditions.

The M-Zero will also see the usage of special alloys for better adaptability of shapes on the structure, which will, again, contribute in the aerodynamics department. Moving on, these folks will use hydro-pneumatic struts for the light-weight suspension system; while the hydro part adjusts the ground clearance, the pressure attends to the stiffness of the ride.

Next up is the Turbulizer - which lowers the thickness of the boundary layer. Well, in short, it reduces aerodynamic drag. The size of the Turbulizer will be in micrometers, and can be manufactured by some surface finishing techniques.

Another important feature of the M-Zero is the Fingerprint Keyless entry. Nope, it isn't just science fiction anymore! However, the presence of this will mean that no one other than the owner will be able to open the car. That leaves a lot of questions and details that need to be attended to.

With that being said, we must admit that the M-Zero looks absolutely radical and flaunts a stunning design. Mean Metal Motors is currently looking for funds, and intend to raise $7 million in the first round of funding, which will help them make their first prototype. The manufacturing facility, sadly, will not be in India but in a Scandinavian country. Also, the market they're looking at is Europe.


Modi ji please make some excellent road for car lovers like us. May be i should visit India for test drive :super:
