For a country that used to import even a toothbrush before, Iran has been making giant strides in industry and indigenously produced components. Recently, on the country’s Defence Industry Day, President of Iran, Hassan Rouhani, had unveiled the first domestically produced Turbojet engine “Owj” (Zenith), in a prestigious ceremony attended by press officials, industry experts, and scientists of the nation.

(The video attached has demo of live running of engine in wind tunnel or testing facility )

Seems like it is a 100% locally manufactured engine that is the most important part , now they can design planes around the engine

And I am sure with design modification they might even combine 2 engines on same plane for increased benefits

Scaling up is not that difficult once you get the main design sorted out

yup, agreed. good achievement, congrats iran. :)

Well they stated engine can serve 10 Ton weight , so that put it in ball part weight for
F16 / Thunder / F7PG Type weight

Sorry but I never knew about the engine as generally such news never makes it to general media

Two of these pupies on a Twin Engine design plane would enable Iran to serve certainly a bit more heavier design

Nice Development . Keep u Good work Iran . This is something real and I congratulate Iranians . Next step should be Turbofan Engines . By the way , what is the specs of this engine ? what is its thrust ?

Who knows maybe someday we'll fly in an Iranian made plane from Turkey to Pakistan...

Developed from F-5's J-85 engine, around 5000-6000 lbf with afterburner.

This is just to gain experience and keep F-5s and Saeqeh in the air until Iran can finish development of a Turbofan to power fighter jets.

It's not as simple as that. They need better materials and metallurgy because temperatures would increase with size and thrust.

Requirement of Serial Production of UAV / Light Jet it seems have been met
Once you have the engine the rest is generally man power
  • 100-300 UAV or 200-300 Light Jets should be possible easily
  • From my understanding they can make Radars already

Now Iran has achived some amazing mile stones
  • Space reaching Rockets / Space program
  • Helicopter Engine / and manufacturing
  • Now Light Jet Aircraft engine

This is true since J-85 is an old turbojet.

But its best to follow a steady and solid path I guess. One step at a time. So the final aim (turbofan) is good.
