Prior the war SAA had 300 K active force + 300 K reserve. Currently SAA has barely 150 K. That means the overwhelming majority of Sunnis deserted. Thats fact.

Assadists still can draft some using force and families as hostages, but value of such soldiers is extremely low, thats why SAA with tanks and jets flee from rag tag rebels with rusty AK.

Thus in order to achieve something they need foreign mercenaries from Iraq, Afghanistan and Lebanon. They already saved Assad in Spring 2013. Now they increased their number adding Iranian and Russians. Yet still cant achieve much beside murder of civilians and ethnic cleansing.
