Masood Khan appointed as new Pak envoy to China​

Islamabad, Sept 2: The Pakistan government has appointed its Permanent Representative to the UN Mission in Geneva, Masood Khan as the new envoy to China.

Masood's name was nominated by the country’s Foreign Office after the new PPP government reversed an earlier decision to appoint Akram as ambassador in Beijing.

A Foreign Office summary has already been cleared by Prime Minister Gilani and it now awaits the President’s signature, reported The News.

The PM cleared Khan's nomination for China, who is currently in Pakistan for consultations. The China post had fallen vacant after the appointment of former ambassador Salman Bashir as Pakistan's new foreign secretary in April 2008, added the paper.

Khan, a top diplomat, has extensive experience in multilateral diplomacy, security and disarmament and is highly respected in the international diplomatic community. He is well versed in the Chinese language and is seen by his colleagues as a "strong candidate" for the key diplomatic post. His first posting abroad was also in Beijing where he served as Third Secretary. He has also served at Pakistan's diplomatic missions in New York, Washington and Holland.

Prior to his appointment as the Permanent Representative in March 2005, Masood served as Director-General of UN Division at the Foreign Ministry. During this period, he also had additional charge of the Foreign Office spokesperson. Generally, this post has been assigned to only additional secretary-level officials.

Zamir Akram, considered one of the outstanding Pakistani diplomats, has already once served in Geneva. His last ambassadorial assignment was in Nepal. (ANI)

I am a Chinese and I respect every decision made by the people of Pakistan on their country. Musharaff was the previous national leader of Pakistan and thus whether he should be regarded as good or not that good is all about you guys, not me.

However, I just want to point out that Musharaff is in general regarded as very good at managing the China/Pakistan friendship by most Chinese.

I will never forget in my life that after the 3.14 riot in Tibet, it was Musharaff who told the students in the Peking university (the best uni in China) that the torch relay in Pakistan would be trouble free. Billions of Chinese would keep it in their mind that after the deadly earthquake in China this May, Musharaff ordered very quick response and all tents in your national reserve were allocated to be shipped to China for saving innocent lives.

In my dictionary, the term "full diplomatic strength" is explained as simple as "the diplomatic relationship between Pakistan and China".

Indians mock us many times here on the forum that what China has given to Pakistan.

They dont know that turst and everything China could do it has done for Pakistan.

We did what we had to do for our chinese brothers and sisters who were in trouble. It was not a favour that we did but rather a moral duty to support China in this hour of need and we will continue to support china where ever and whenever the need arises. A friend in need is a friend indeed.
