Dhaka, Dec 29 (UNB) – Gopalganj Zilla Samity, a Dhaka-based organisation of people of the district living in the capital, on Sunday protested BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s remarks against the district.



Talking to reporters in front of her Gulshan residence on Sunday afternoon, the BNP chief, “The name of Gopalganj will be changed. Gopalganj will no longer exist.”



She came up with the remarks apparently venting her anger at the cops in front of the gate of her house as she presumed them to be drawn from Gopalganj.


Terming Khaleda’s speech ‘indecent, aggressive and unacceptable’, the samity leaders in a statement said as an opposition leader such type of impolite speech from Khaleda Zia shocked the nation.


They also demanded that the opposition leader withdraw her speech and seek unconditional apology to the people of Gopalganj for her speech.

Protests in Gopalganj following Khaleda’s remark

People from different walks of life in Gopalganj district burst into agitation yesterday following the remark made by the opposition leader and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia regarding changing the name of the district.

In the evening, leaders and activists of the district Awami League, Chhatra League, Jubo league, Sammilita Sangskritik Jote and different groups of professionals put up demonstrations in phases inside the town.

The BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia asserted that the Gopalganj district be renamed. She made the remark at the entrance of her Gulshan residence yesterday afternoon, without mentioning who would rename the district.

The district Chhatra League arranged a rally at the city centre, Chowrongi, protesting Khaleda’s remark. They demanded Khaleda seek an apology for her derogatory remark.

Protesting the remark, Awami League candidate from Gopalganj-2 constituency for the 10th parliamentary polls Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim said: “The father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was born on this soil of Gopalganj. Bangladesh would not have born if Bangabandhu was not born.”

“Who is she [Khaleda Zia] to change the name of the land? If they tried to erase the name of Gopalganj, they would be erased automatically,” he added.

Khaleda Zia does politics only to save the war criminals belonging to the Jamaat-e-Islami, Selim said.

The Awami League lawmaker requested everyone to cast vote for “boat,” the election symbol of Awami League.

People from Tungipara, Kotalipara, Muksutpur and Kashiani upazila hold demonstrations.

She shouted at a woman yesterday and said 'Are you from Gopalgonj district, you Golapi?' Out of anger she said there will be no Gopalgonj once she is in power. She will demolish it.

No she didn't told to rename it when she will be in power but the name will eventually change out of anger .

৬. আর আছে প্রতিবেশী ভারতের অকুন্ঠ
পরামর্শ ও সমর্থন ।
হাচিনা সফল তার পরিকল্পনা বাস্তবায়নের
পথে ।

ঘটিয়ে কখনো ক্ষমতা থেকে নামাতে পারবেন
আমরাও এটা বুঝি যে বিএনপি নিজেও
জানে যে
১.হায়েনা সরকারকে ক্ষমতাচ্যূত করার মত
সুষ্ঠু ও সুদৃঢ় পরিকল্পনা নেই ।
২. আছে সমন্বয়হীনতা ।
৩. নেই সশস্ত্র আন্দোলন করার মত
সাহসী নেতা কর্মী ।
কথনোই সশস্ত্র আক্রমন না করে কোন
ফ্যাসিস্ট সরকারের পতন ঘটানো যায় না ।
তাই আমাদের অযথা স্বপ্ন দেখে হতাশ হবার
কারণ নেই বিএনপিও এটা জানে পতন
ঘটাতে পারবেনা তাই
তারা একটা অস্থিতিশীল পরিবেশ
সূষ্টি করে ও বজায়
রেখে সরকারকে বেকায়দায়
ফেলে একটি সমঝোতা করতে চায় ।
তবে কি আমরা হায়েনালীগের হাত
থেকে মুক্তি পাবোনা ?
হ্যাঁ পাবো দরকার শুধু
১. সাহসী , বলিষ্ঠ ও যোগ্য নেতৃত্ব ।
২. একটা আদর্শ ও লক্ষ্য ।
৩. সেই আদর্শে উদ্ভুদ্ধ নেতাকর্মী ।
৪. সশস্ত্র সাংগঠনিক শক্তি ।
আমি এই গনতান্ত্রিক আদর্শে বিশ্বাসী নই ।
আমি কোন রাজনৈতিক দলের সমর্থক ও নই ।
আমি শুধু একটা বিশ্লেষণ করলাম ।
এটা একান্তই আমার মতামত এটা ভূলও
হতে পারে ।

Pranab Mukherjee's presidential promise was to develop the Northeast, for this India needs Bangladesh and India's look east policy depends on Bangladesh. They will not let Bangladesh go at any cost. I think India will stick with Awami League until the BCIM corridor deal is finalized the way she wants it. The BCIM corridor is her interest.

U mean linking their corridor to NE in the quadra-state agreement of BCIM. Quite possible but still it would be possible for BD to renegotiate corridor treaty without ither harming chinese or burmese interest in BCIM. Indians r worried for that. Eventually they won't get things the way they got under awami maggots. Add to that, the inherent frustration of not being able to exploit BD after 75. For them, BD is rightfully their property after 71 and not being able to do that is a frustration that is too much to bear. These bastards would fight tooth and nail to safeguard the investment they poured into BAL and Hasina over the last 30 years.
