Belgium’s integration policy has caused a “cancer” within Muslim communities, many of whom “danced” after the deadly Brussels attacks last month, said the Belgian Interior Minister, blaming the government for failing to integrate migrants into society.

In an interview with a Belgian newspaper, Jan Jambon said that he regretted that a “significant” proportion of the Muslim community had been “dancing” in the streets following the attacks on March 22 in which 32 innocent victims and three suicide bombers were killed, and over 300 people injured.

“A significant section of the Muslim community danced when attacks took place,” Jambon told De Standaard newspaper as cited by AFP. Shocked with such reaction, the minister blamed Belgian integration policy which had failed to incorporate migrants and refugees into European society.

By way of example he said that residents of the Molenbeek neighbourhood in Brussels were very belligerent to both the authorities and the press during a raid which resulted in the arrest of the main suspect in the deadly Paris attacks last November which killed over 130 people.

“They threw stones and bottles at police and press during the arrest of Salah Abdeslam . That is the real problem. That migrants from the third or fourth generation turn openly against our society and have been willing to use violence or to justify it has to do with our policy,” Jambon said.

Based on the minister’s assessment, terrorists themselves are just a “boil” which is much easier to treat than the core of the problem which is “too deeply rooted” in the immigrant dominated parts of society where while the government “for many years ignored the warning signs.”

“Terrorists we can pick up, remove from society,” Jambon stressed, but those who openly support terrorism or attack the law enforcement during the arrest are a sign of“cancer that is much more difficult to treat.”

“We can do it, but not today or tomorrow. Politicians will have to surpass themselves,” he stressed, making it clear that there is now quick solution to this problem in the short term.

Belgium has a population of just 11 million people with about 6 percent being Muslim, Pew Research reports based on 2010 estimates. At the same time according to UN estimates the country is providing the most Islamic State (IS formerly, ISIS/ISIL) recruits per capita in Europe. Over 500 recruits from Belgium have gone abroad to fight with the jihadists since 2010. Many have returned home and now pose a threat to the entire continent.

RT, originally Russia Today, is a Russian government-funded television network that runs cable and satellite television channels directed to audiences outside of Russia as well as providing Internet content in various languages, including Russian. RT is a brand of "TV-Novosti", an "autonomous non-profit organization", founded by the Russian news agency,

RIA Novosti. RIA Novosti, sometimes shortly RIA was Russia's international news agency until 2013 and continues to be the name of a state-operated domestic Russian-language news agency. Operating under the purview of the Russian Ministry of Communications and Mass Media, RIA Novosti is headquartered in Moscow.

On 9 December 2013 President of Russia Vladimir Putin ordered RIA Novosti's liquidation and the creation of a Russian international news agency Rossiya Segodnya. RIA Novosti was scheduled to be closed down in 2014; starting in March 2014, staff were informed that they had the option of transferring their contracts to Rossiya Segodnya or accepting voluntary redundancy.

On 10 November 2014, Rossiya Segodnya launched the Sputnik multimedia platform as the international replacement of RIA Novosti and Voice of Russia. Within Russia itself, however, Rossiya Segodnya continues to operate its Russian language news service under the name RIA Novosti with its ria.ru website.

Sputnik is an international multimedia service launched on 10 November 2014 by Rossiya Segodnya, an agency wholly owned and operated by the Russian government, which was created by a Decree of the President of Russia on December 9, 2013. According to its chief Dmitry Kiselyov, Sputnik intends to counter the "aggressive propaganda that is now being fed to the world".

RT has been called a propaganda outlet for the Russian government and its foreign policy by news reporters, including former RT reporters. RT has also been accused of spreading disinformation. The United Kingdom media regulator, Ofcom, has repeatedly found RT to have breached rules on impartiality, and of broadcasting "materially misleading" content. RT states that it offers a Russian perspective on global events.

Jan Jambon (born 26 April 1960 in Genk) is a Belgian politician affiliated to the[right wing, populist] New Flemish Alliance (N-VA). He became mayor of Brasschaat in 2013.In October 2014 he became Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior in the Michel Government.

In the past he made himself 'popular' e.g. by having given a speech in 2001 during the 50th birthday of Sint-Maartensfonds, an association of former Flemish soldiers who were fighting alongside Nazi Germany troops on the Eastern front during World War II. In October 2014, replying to these remarks, Jambon declared the following as part of an interview. “ The collaboration was a mistake. The Flemish movement was isolated for several years. But it's easier said than done. The people who collaborated with the Germans had their reasons. Me, I was not living during that time. ”

Anyway, this politician is not known for his verbal subtlety. But if you read these remark, while it may be an unhappy comparison, how offensive is it really, when you considerer the point he is attempting to convey?

Perhaps he wants to mimic Trump

The Belgium interior minister did make those statements to their newspaper, that's a fact, no spin there.

I don't know where you get the idea that I deny any statements being made. FYI, there always is spin. Tha't's precisely why you need to know who'se material you read: where you stand depends on where you sit, so to speak.

Danced when Belgium was attacked. Attacked police with stone pelting when arresting terrorists. But as usual blame the society for not integration of Muslims.

Why west is so dumb ? Or they act like one ? But for what? . Huge surprise awaits EU ... Andnrhe west for sure.

Thanks for equating Belgium to 'the West', whatever that may be (is India or Pakistan 'the East'?).

The exact scope of the Western world is somewhat subjective in nature, depending on whether cultural, economic, spiritual or political criteria are employed.

Many anthropologists, sociologists and historians oppose "the West and the Rest" in a categorical manner. The same has been done by Malthusian demographers with a sharp distinction between European and non-European family systems. Among anthropologists, this includes Durkheim, Dumont and Lévi-Strauss.

As the term "Western world" does not have a strict international definition, governments do not use the term in legislation of international treaties and instead rely on other definitions.

evil racist right wing politician, his comments were worse than the attacks themselves, yes ? :enjoy:

Do you have a point you are trying to make? E.g. do you agree or disagree with Jan Jambon?
I can't verify his claims but it wouldn't surprise me one bit if indeed some were celebrating the attacks, it also wouldn't surprise me if reports of people obstructing abdeslam's arrest are true or if a large part of his community were actually sheltering him because he's their "hero"

no surprises anywhere.
