Mangalore college bans burqa in class

If a schools/collage bans burkha /nakab for its students then the parents should admit their children in some islamic schools where there is absolutely no restrictions on wearing a hijab.

Well in all collages, beards are not allowed to develop, we have a dress code, which applies to girls also !!
In my coll in chennai, girls come to coll in burqa and remove it while sitting in class....
Some use small scarfs to cover their necks alone...
I don find anything bad in it..
In class therer should be a sense that everyone are equal...

If you have read my earliesr post.. that's what i said. St Aloysius used to be the symbol of prestige & discipline along with best educational standard, with uniform dress code. For that very reason.. St Aloysius used be the first choice for boys & St Agnes used to be first choice for girls those days. Obviously that standard has gone down off late in St Aloysius due to lack of discipline. It's good to see they are trying to bring it back..

We had some similar issues with our Missionary schools and colleges (the Forman Christian College for one) who went on from being really, really good to plain average when the Government nationalized them; but now, of late, the schools and the colleges have gone back to the Missionaries and the educational standards along with the reputation of being pretty good, is returning !

This college in particular is still run by mangalore jesuit educational society & used to have excellent standards with only boys allowed. Even though this was catholic dominated, like any other land marks within the city of mangalore.. admits students without discriminating against any religion due to their uniform disciplinary code. However due to many more educational institutions cropping up within mangalore, they had to change their boys only policy & had to be bit lenient on other aspects like minimum marks required to get into that college. Now it looks like the present principal & management of the college is making an attempt to bring back the college to its former glory!!

I think most of the women in Pakistan and Bangladesh don't wear Burqa and Niqab as they just cover their head with chunari. So, I don't think Pakistanis like you are supposed to be emotional on this issue.

It's about women's rights. A woman should have the right to choose. End of story.

Secularism means that one has to be religious neutral in govermental institutions, that means no signs of regardless of which religion should be displayed. If it's a goverment school, the school has to right to ban any sign/symbol of any religion from the students as well as from the teachers. Since this is a (private) Christian school, it's their absolute right to impose their dress code. If you don't like that, go to a Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, etc. school. In Germany, a Catholic run hospital has the right not to employ a Protestant nurse or doctor. But if it's a gov. run hospital, religion should not play any roles, since any religion should be practiced in private and not displayed within the hospital.

When someone is brought up feeding him in his mind that X thing is right to do and we should not agrue. I do not beleive that person can make any rational decision on something that has been fed to him.

I agree people have right to wear the way the want, but I feel it is a security risk. I am only against covering the face, as long as face is not covered I am fine with how you are dressed.

What if someone comes and has his face covered and commits a crime, it is difficult to know who he was, also I agree facial expression is important part of communication.

Burqa if I understand it right was introduced by Arabs who were over possasive of their women.

Covering of women is only part of those countries where men tends to misbehave with women, take their advantage and molest or rape them. It actualy speaks volumes about men in that society.

E.g. Indian, Pakistan, Arab middle east.

Burkha is actually central asian in origin. The Mughals, ironically enough introduced the designer blue one from Dehli.

Before Islam in Arabia, women would walk around with almost no clothes on.
