Man dies after getting hit by falling parts of Metro Bridge in Rawalpindi

No safety net is going to save that for sure.

What is important to learn from is what happened afterwards:

"After the ceiling collapse, Attorney General Tom Reilly described the tunnel as a crime scene and issued subpoenas to the companies and individuals responsible for the tunnel construction and testing. Governor Mitt Romney returned from a vacation in New Hampshire to view the condition of the tunnels.[4][5]

The Governor ordered connecting roads that lead into the Fort Point Channel Tunnel and several ramps to the westbound section from within the city be closed. These closures caused dramatic overflow congestion throughout the city as motorists sought alternate routes to and from Logan International Airport and several other key arterial routes. Beyond the difficulties posed within the city, the Fort Point Channel Tunnel and Ted Williams Tunnel link the Massachusetts Turnpike and Interstate 93 to Logan, so this also blocked a key inbound link for airport travelers coming from outside the city, forcing them to seek alternate routes like the Callahan Tunnel or follow poorly marked detours that wound through the city, often resulting in additional travel times of one hour or more.

The legislature approved the governor's plan to assume oversight of the investigation into the collapse (as Romney had only gained office in 2003, long after any decisions about the construction had been made, he was seen as a good choice for an independent investigator), taking responsibility away from the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority, and additionally allocating $20 million for a "stem to stern" safety review of the Central Artery system. At the request of all the members of the Massachusetts congressional delegation, the National Transportation Safety Board dispatched a six-member civil engineering team to Boston to inspect the accident scene and determine whether a full-scale investigation was warranted."

But life is cheap here.

You know that.

Its not acceptable bro.

Think if this thing had hit a passing biker below. Its falling from a height of over 50 feet. And the biker is travelling at around 60 kmph ..... no helmet .....

They are supposed to have safety nets under these flyovers.

Yes bro not acceptable but in comparison to a structure already built it can be expected.

And talking of these safety nets, well I daily cross under three such structures that are under construction, I have never seen such nets in place, in fact cranes and heavy machinery keeps working and traffic keeps passing under these structures.

That used to be the case here as well. Till similar accidents in New Delhi (I think) and Kolkata or Hyderabad. There is a triple net layer system of different materials and size of holes.

And you conveniently ignored the post about going to MIT!!!! I don't know if you drink a lot or remain high. I've written it many times that I use IPad to type, many times on the go as I am used to writing two liner e-mails. When you tell the Indian guy, Mr. Sri in IPad to speech write a post, it does small mistakes as I am speaking while I am doing other stuff. And IPad is touch sensitive for bigger fingers so words can come out spelled incorrectly. So the "grammar" you keep referring to, you need to find a different line from the Vedic times to insult me. How many vowels are in your name? Do you jump start about ten times in each sentence when you speak English because that's how the Indian accent works??
I can get pretty darn mean and personal. The above post is just a warning sign to stop the personals. The schools I went to, you can't dream of paying a Semester out of your pocket living in India. So lay this off or I will get a LOT more personal with you. Look at this, someone coming in on an H1B, probably on fake documents or degree from India, getting educated in US through OUR grant system in universities and now taking a jobs over that belongs to a real American talking about grammar  . Like I said, you get more insulting, I'll time it by 10 in my response. So act normal or be ready to face more personal stuff from me in retaliation.

@Irfan Baloch : may want to tell your friend to stop trying to insult the other party on a silly argument because then he'll get personal and he will click on the negative ratings button. As you can see, I am just responding and retaliating to his posts, after ignoring a coupe of his previous posts on the SAME lines. This needs to stop. If you guys can't enforce it, then don't ban people either.
all this BS, but still no qualification....

let's try this in simpler words.

You - Claim "Honey, I am probably one of the most qualified persons on here. I don't brag about it."

We ask : What is your qualification.

You post everything but your qualification

and then brag about some tuition for your schools (which btw is a weird thing to brag about)
Hopefully that makes it clear what the query is about.....

@Jango @Akheilos I am not sure if the above can be explained to the gentlemen in any simpler words, but may be you could help us out here.

say what? Sorry I dont really read all his posts....They go beating about Gangis Khan's bush

Project Management only has to deliver what's sold and on time and if they manage to do it at less than forecast its bonus¨!
If any clauses of quality were stipulated in contract, than its Project Managment's task to ensure its delivery with support of respective reports / docs. Nothing more!
I have many family members as Civil Engineers, and also like of yours... Electrical turned into Project Managers.
This is why, I understand basics of structural Engineering.
What I see in picture is a damage on prefab. structure... which is NOT built on site.... but its surface quality shows, its built in some non certified setup. Therefore, I'm sure if any sort of quality control was in place in its construction, it may have stood its structural integrity for centuries to come.
It seems to be more of a case of supplier qualification,,,, i.e. corruption and ineptness in award of contract, or draft of contract, not really too much of project management issue... in this incidence. They may surface in audit in other dimensions.
IMO, Politicians need to stay clear of any sort of planning and execution of contracts.

Exactly. But on a slightly technical note; a project manager's mandate is to meet time, cost and quality constraints. And these constraints are defined in the relevant documents. In this case, time and quality constraints were not met.

You could be right about supplier using providing low quality materials. In this case the PM (and his sub-team responsible for quality) was supposed to point it out and take steps to rectify the issue.

My point, in my earlier posts, was that since this is a public project-- initiated and executed by the gov, so ultimately the responsibility also falls on the gov.

Politicians can't, and they never, stay out of these kind of projects. That's their job to get involved at policy level to make sure things go smoothly. Different gov bodies are responsible for the micromanagement aspect, but it is the chief executive (in this case CM) who is ultimately responsible here.

Metro bridges in Rawalpindi are in really bad condition it has started to falling apart as reported here before. There has been many incident before and today a young boy got killed after a hit by parts fallen from bridge.

Listen to his uncle who is PMLN worker u will understand what IK has been saying

RIP Niyaz.
What Haneef Abbassi said was really stupid and insane. He was saying that as if it wasnt a big deal of a man getting killed by a falling piece of metro bridge.

I am going to answer the childish content with just numbers covering some of your IK like comments, accusations or lack of basic sense, but yet, you and your cousins on here, decide to comment on issues as if you guys actually have a complete understanding. That's where the issue is, when people from different fields comment like experts on issues they don't know about. But since they hate NS, so its all good and its "supposed" to be intelligent.

1) The highly qualified and the stupid post from a stupid member you are quoting, in your opinion made the right statement? That guy's got his as* handed by me to him, for so many times, its not even funny. And you expect people like him to give you an honest, real assessment. Nice.

What he's forgotten is, what I've mentioned many times, that I use an IPad and sometimes, speaking to it so it can translate into text. So its VERY natural for stuff to be cut out or misspelled. The dude is from India, and their English is broken like a train track, and he'll comment on someone else's behavior, writing or otherwise. You are a genius .

What do you have to have to be a Think Tank on this forum? Supporting IK, is the ONLY qualification it seems like!!!

2) Which "place" did you study at? I'd LOVE to hear this!!!! One of the schools I went to, is called MIT!!!! Go beat that shiiit!!! And that's ALL I'll tell you!!!! And this is ONLY 1 school I've listed! A blind can see my posts on different topic and knows that the knowledge I bring to the table, doesn't belong to a common individual. But its fine, stupids will ALWAYS remain stupid.

3) As ALWAYS you are short sighted!!! Like everything else IK and you believe in. The PICTURE you refer to, ONLY shows the external damage and the outside view. INTERNAL to the concrete structure, lies a net of heavy metallic woven structure, many chemical components, tar and other things, and heavy iron bars. From the picture outside, it just shows you the issue the way it looks externally.

To know the entire depth of the real problem, you have to have an engineering survey done. There can be 10 things wrong here. Again, this wasn't hand built by a country's PM that he should be "executed" per some of you. Engineers and companies built this and if the quality is an issue, it should be investigated, people who actually built this with lower grade material are the one's responsible. If their bosses bought it and forced them, they should've come out on the media. But if they didn't,its them and their bosses who need to be fired and put into the jail if that's what the court decides.

4) On WV comment: You honestly don't see a difference in this situation here and WV??? WV damage can result in billions of loss.....here, one individual died and his family should be compensated well and an investigation conducted ASAP. If the investigation concludes the contracting company is using lower grade material all around. Then ABSOLUTELY, the CEO should go to jail and the license this company has, should be cancelled. But you people want to execute the PM or the CM on it, without any investigation. THAT's where the stupidity comes in and makes no sense.

You have to decide what are you complaining about? If your goal is to take out the political opponents, then this is the wrong thread for it. As this thread requires specific investigations by a team of engineers, highly qualified in their field. Till that happens, everyone needs to STFU and pray for the victim's family and his soul. End of the story. After the investigation, the law will find its course. All other noises here due to political differences, can literally go to hell as they don't provide any benefit to the victim's family. You people are running your propaganda mill on an unfortunate death. And that's very below human. There are times when I wonder if people who write this crap are actually humans or aliens from Mars!!!

Woah...didn't know MIT takes in such dross students these days.

In which field did you get your degree from then O 'most qualified person on the forum'?

all this BS, but still no qualification....

I've become tired of this guy's nonsense now TBH.

I've called out his bluff multiple times, sometimes he claims to be sitting in the same room as our COAS, Air Chief and PM's...then he claims to be an MIT grad, then he claims to know the finer details of the dharna, all of which were communicated within the PM house (and when I asked him to narrate that sequence exactly as it was, he conveniently forgot to reply to me).

Then he has intimate knowledge of Pakistani cities, our universities, our local political system, daily political happenings of Pakistan....my bet is he is another naturalized US citizen, pretending to be more loyal to the King than the king himself.

He is nothing but a fraud.

P.S: Now watch how he brings in Imran Khan into this.

under-construction flyover in Swargate.
So our metro is under construction?

I thought buses were running now, no?

Another accident today...

Gosh, what did they do with so much money if they cant get the basics right? Why didnt they invite MIT superpower @Viper0011. to make the metro...I mean managers/ supervisors forgetting to inspect the basic safety bit is utterly surprising..YOU would think that if you are paying for a metro more expensive than every city on the planet, it would at least fly not start "chipping off" and start giving electrical shocks 6 mths after its opening :o:
