Both BD and malaysia have laws against hurting religious beliefs. In BD it carries max punishment of upto 3 years as far as i know. In turkey too, recently some people have been booked for hurting religious sentiments. Anyway that's not the point and none of these countries you mentioned should be models to follow for PAK in case of blasphemy law.
In muslim lands clear red lines for "freedom of expression" should be drawn for brainwashed liberal secularists and such lines require ruthless punishments and social deterrence. For exercising "freedom to mock muslims" you have France, UK, Germany etc etc.
60s was no exception for PAK, most of the post-colonial muslim world back then were ruled by secular despots like ayub khan. Ayub khan did more harm than good in the form of nipping the institutional development of a nascent nation-state while trying to disrupt the social fabric of the country with imported western ideas. He was the one who started the habit of military coups in PAK and laid the ground work for eventual civil war in 71 IMHO. Trial and error, bickering in parliament, corrupt, weak but elected civilian leadership would have a much better chance of fostering unity in a diverse federation like PAK. People deride India and Nehru for weak economy in the 60s- 90s but did India break up in 2? They took their time in building institutions and fostering unity and playing according to reasonable rule of law unlike muslim nations.
Also bro, material ecnomomic growth should never be the benchmark to measure success for muslims. Only people devoid of objective morality and higer purpose in life can argue solely on material terms like secularist liberals. Double digit growth rate in exchange for social chaos, destruction of the environment, corruption, inequality, nepotism and ultimate destruction of moral values is NOT what Allah(swt) created human beings for. There is a reason why westerners, koreans & japanese are flocking to Islam and those who are NOT are trying to find meaning in far-right nationalism or ending up doing suicide:
We muslims should not follow IMF prescribed post-WWII model of development, but should give an alternative of sustainable constructive development to the world, based on our beliefs and values of justice & fairness. Muslim by definition are meant to lead and not follow the rest of mankind.
