Man beating in Saudi Arabia raises questions over expat rights in kingdom

He is likely to receive a prison sentence and would be ordered to pay a compensation to the victim and his family. But I am not sure. I would give him a very long prison sentence personally and 1000 lashes. 100 for each year. 10 years seems fair enough. Not just due to the crime but for the bad publicity he gave the country and its people who are innocent of his idiotic behavior.

The cameraman should receive 5 years and 500 lashes. Half the sentence.

A death penalty for that is WAY too cruel. We are not talking about murder, extreme violence, drug smuggling in large quantities, organized crime etc.

The lashes in KSA are very mild. Just a little whip and that is it. There is also a differentiation between men and women. It is not like in Iran or what you see some other countries doing sometimes.

Quite frankly I was joking about those lashes. A jail sentence and a compensation should be punishment enough.

Yes it is the image that I am most angry about aside from the actual crime. The one filming it should receive the same punishment more or less due to his stupidity. Idiot. Excuse my language.

I really hope that the punishment will be harsh because that is an embarrassment despite that only being two idiots doing it. It affects the whole country. I really hope they make a harsh punishment. No execution since that would not be any better but a real prison sentence and a big fine.

I am still angry when I see this and I even feel that it is my duty to punish those two. If I just had the powers!

Shamefull people ruining the reputation of Saudi Arabians and KSA. I tell you that there was a great, great harm all over the social media, news etc. That would be an understatement. I might overdramatize this incident but it really annoys me.

The excuse coming out of Gulf Arab mouth is pretty disgusting who should condemn the acts instead of making excuses like "Isn't your country worse". The discrimination against Asians in the Gulf region is very common and the blame is pointed to the wealthy Gulf families. Beside wealthy, moderate class are more preferable with equality who have no problem with Asians.

Beside beating and using harsh comments, For example, a waiting list with group of Asians in a clinic who had been waiting for an hour, a Gulf Arab approached to open the door, the nurse in the counter will always welcome them with nice manners and place them as 'next for check' with noticing Asians were in the list first. Typical selfishness.

Sadly, this is the truth and when it comes to discrimination, the Gulf Arabs particularly wealthy class will deny this is as always. Just the similiarities when Israel denies persecuting toward Palestinians who are well known to be an experts making 'excuses' and the same goes to Iran, the country with lack of freedom and with persecutions against minorities which barely goes reported publicity but it is well documentated.

More worse, when I went to Dubai on a holiday heading to an enourmous shopping mall years ago, an Arab in a street seen as either homeless or low class sat on a ground when a group of men who wore traditional Gulf wearing who is known well to look wealthy walked pass him and ignored. This shows how arrogant they are. I have been to Bahrain and the UAE twice and tourism are more heavily populated in UAE who can see how they are been treated.

Not to mention, Gulf Arabs are far more lazier than anyone else out there, I guaranteed if you shake one of males hand, soft as a year old child and it explains everything how they lived who are incapable of doing anything but to lift a sheet of paper and a calculator. This is the people i'm referring to the wealthy 'arrogant' class who are more dominated in business, this is why Asians are more common working as maids and labourers.

Anyway, instead of being positioned as a labourer or working with Gulf families, they should think twice before filling the sheet on whether if they are more comfortable working with the rich Arabs or not. I understand the difficulties in South or East Asian countries but it shows the failure of their country and the responsible should be fixed by their own government who should focus economically and improve law and security rather than making it a slum.

The video is disgusting, no question about it. The beating was inhuman and hard to watch. No one should defend it and no Saudi is doing that. Some one from UAE mentioned it is staged, it does not look like it is.

There are bad apples in all countries. If we did not have scums in our political class, our country could develop faster and we would not have to send them as migrant labors. But as it is, due to our economy and surplus unskilled manpower, we have no choice but to send them to whatever country will give them a job. GCC countries employ several million Bangladeshis and it is one of the lifelines of our impoverished economy.

Saudi brothers here have mentioned that govt. will give punishment to the guy. A long prison sentence will deter future crimes like this. The sadistic guy who recorded this, should also be punished at least with a fine. And the victim should be compensated for the physical and emotional damage as well as pain and sufferings he went through.

Since this matter has been taken up by Saudi govt., I am confident that it will be resolved to the satisfaction of the victim.

I checked out the video in youtube, it looks like a PR disaster for not just Saudi's but all Arabs and Muslims. More than 100,000 hits and 300+ comments. But some bad apple's actions I believe will not stand in the way of the strong relationship that has developed between two countries over the years and will continue to get stronger in the future.

These are old video's. We live in brutal countries and some countries record it better than others and then we get these great hue and cry. Go to nooks and corners of South Asian countries, from terrorism to communalism and caste-ism to just plain day to day hunger, the picture is grim.

Things will change with time, but for now it will remain remain grim, whether they stay home or work as migrant labor in other countries. The main culprit are the political and social elite, who do nothing to change the system we have in our countries, so people do not have to go to other places where they might be treated badly.

Just like we have scums in all countries, there are scums in Arab countries. Some of them will act on their whim and some will be recorded and posted on video sites. It does not however change the overall scenario. It does not change the fact that they are our Sunni Muslim brothers, who have helped us for many decades, with grants, aid and jobs/remittances and without them we would be much worse off.

So you can post as many video as you like, but as mentioned earlier, I know the ground reality in Bangladesh well enough to know what is important for us and what is not.

Eh? Here I have to disagree my friend. We don't really know what happened. Talking to his wife? Can mean a lot. Was he making sexual advancements towards her? Or was he just asking a random question? We cannot know. For me the gentleman beaten in this video is innocent until we get to know if he was indeed making improper sexual advancements for example. But I will definetely not assume that his happened. But on the other hand such scenes have been seen by certain groupings of migrants especially non-Muslim. Let alone killings of children that they were supposed to look after. But this is all once again tiny, tiny minorities so it would be stupid of me to say that all the migrant workers are uncivilized child-murderers and sexual perverts for example.

The end of the story is that the case needs to be reviewed and once the full circumstances are known due punishments must be given. I am sure that the courts in the city, region x this was filmed in will put all what we have discussed into consideration and make a just judgement. At least I surely hope so and even demand that!

Are my eyes seeing it correctly? Are you really apologizing on behalf of the worker?

In some parts of Afghanistan, girls and boys talking to each other can result in their heads being chopped off too! So it doesn't mean that their families should apologize the killers because of 'wrong manners' of their children, instead, the society should overcome such backward mentalities. That's the correct way.
I don't know what this poor worker has said exactly to this man's wife, but if it was a simple conversation without any ill intentions, the convict should be punished severely.
