Maldives President's visit to Pakistan: Why India must remain cautious

.
Bases in Srilanka as well as Maldives would create huge uproar from India.

There can be no bases in Maldives. Ships completely avoid that area completely due to reefs. As for Sri Lanka, there have been recent political changes favourable to India.

Which is just Limited to Words of their Prime Minister while their Defense Establishment, Bureaucracy and Opposition still on Chinese Side and things can still Turn Nasty if anything significant happened against China there. That is why why would their PM still wants Chinese to Build Humbantuta Port.

As for Maldives then they need Funds and Engineering to raise Artificial Islands like Dubai to save their Country from Predicted Drowning in 2040 and Chinese have both of them.

Neither Sri Lanka and Maldives can afford to anger India. Economic development is one thing, military presence is another. As for China, what they want is ROI. Let us see whether they invest in a sinking ship. Sri Lanka is not a worry. China cannot navigate South Asian politics the way India can.

Chinese have just got started and first Phase is Gawadar Port and Naval base there then eliminating Indian Influence from Afghanistan and then moving towards Srilanka from SCS as well as from Naval base in Pakistan.

Naval base in Pakistan?
When did that happen? Is it proposed as of yet? Or you're just a fan boy advocating China?

That is not the Chinese intention at all. Militarily, it wants to secure its oil lanes from US interference. Economically, it is all about ROI. If there is money to be made, whether India, or Pakistan, or Afghanistan- China will be there. That is not a big issue- and China is major world player.

It was Proposed along with Gawadar Port

And how would they Secure Oil Lanes and their most Vital Transit route without involving Military there? That is the point here and Naval Size Expansion is part of their strategy to secure all Areas which are Vital to their Transit that includes both SCS and the route between Srilanka and Maldives as well as Developing Alternative Route directly to China in the form of Gwadar.

Obviously, China would like military bases in IOR at some stage. That is targeted at US mainly, not India. And obviously India would try its best to defeat these Chinese moves, by whether by funding the opposition or coups. That game is ongoing.

So funded Opposition is most likely to be India (They had Fought a War with China in the Past and they are in competition with China over Asia) for Indian Ocean and Japan(WWII Old Wounds with China) for Pacific Ocean. That makes India Party to the Conflict in Indian Ocean and their Project in Srilanka and Maldives wont be Good for India Strategically.

It is not always win-lose game- these Chinese investments in South Asia. Let us say China builds a highway for freight in Sri Lanka. Lanka could buy additional Indian trucks for freight. There could be an economic multiplier effects- net positive for India On the other hand, something that competes our interests is harmful. India is not unusually concerned about this. But we will react strongly to military involvement in our backyard. It is an ongoing game.

Yes there is a Mutual benefits on Economic Level but when Geopolitics comes equation then it becomes a Competition and one win one lose game that is the problem here in South Asia. For Years in last Century when India was most Influential in the region South Asian Countries didnt got any Economic benefits despite of being most Strategically Located but when Chinese started flexing their influence all these countries started making Progress. That is the case here in South Asia and Indian attitude towards any development have not been encouraging as well in this regards.

It is not China that is responsible for economic progress in South Asia. Chinese investment in South Asia is minuscule, compared to that by countries like US/UK/Japan. It is IMF/World Bank/ADB which funds many development projects. It is the new globalized world is mostly responsible for the rapid reduction in poverty and economic progress in South Asia. Let me reiterate this- no one is doing anyone any favours. China/US/UK/Japan/India all want return on investment. China India relationship is not necessarily adversarial. Our economic ties are rapidly improving, and we have many commonalities on many global issues. Nations sometimes collaborate, sometimes compete. Same for India and China.

He is too naive to understand that. He thinks just because of some stupid jingoistic people in Pakistan, China one day will Nuke India and China-Pakistan will live happily ever after.

You are right Globalization has an impact on South Asia but Chinese Interest in South Asia has also gave a strong message to India of not to ignore the neighborhood they are living with. Humbantuta Port, Gwadar Port and Kurakuram Highway like Projects have never been taken place by IMF or US/UK investments and these are the major Development even Srilanka was fighting its Decade old Conflict with LTTE with India being unreliable in supporting them for conflict before Chinese started to flex their influence in the region and end of the conflict has also Fueled any economic development that Srilanka have witnessed for a long time. It was mostly Chinese and Pakistani Assistance that made it Possible on the first Place. So its not completely US/UK or IMF or Globalization Wonders but their are regional Geopolitics have also made its influence in the region.
