Maldives cuts diplomatic ties with Iran

.
The Maldives decides to sever diplomatic relations with Iran
Male’: 17 May 2016

The Government of Maldives has today decided to sever diplomatic relations with Iran. The Maldives believes that the policies that Iranian Government pursues in the Middle East, and in particular, in the Arabian Gulf region, is detrimental to peace and security in the region, which, in many ways, is also linked to stability, peace and security of the Maldives.

The Islamic Summit held last month in Turkey called on Iran to pursue a policy based on the principle of “good neighbourliness, non-interference in their domestic affairs, respect for their independence and territorial sovereignty, [and] resolving differences by peaceful means in accordance with OIC and the UN Charters”. The Maldives calls on Iran to show more commitment and tangible results in implementing the recommendations of the OIC.

The Maldives established diplomatic relations with Iran on 2 June 1975.

Pakistan is not a 'victim'. Your Governments(including Military) over the years (from Zia onwards) welcomed the Saudi money flowing in your education sector.

You wanted your population to become more "Islamic" and the Saudis aided you in your goals.

Your Establishment was all too happy to have these jihadis getting trained with US and Saudi money when it wanted to get its goals in Afghanistan and India. Till date your establishment remains reluctant at best to tackle the real jihadi training areas in Pakistani Punjab (South Punjab to be exact) because these ones are against India.

So don't paint yourself as any kind of victim. You welcomed them, you wanted this.

How is this related to the decision of Maldives to cut diplomatic ties with Iran? Has Pakistan, after Saudi funding, cut back on ties with Iran? Has Pakistan pressurised Maldives to make this decision? Is Pakistan expelling the Iranian ambassador? Even after direct Saudi appeal, Pakistan kept relatively neutral in this tussle and actually tried to cool it down.

Why did you even bring Pakistan into it when the decision of Maldives has nothing to do with what Pakistan does. However, if we do apply your logic here, even then, Maldives is itself at fault for accepting Saudi aid and allowing extremists from Pakistan to set up shop there. Will you blame Maldives, following your own logic in the above statement, or is it just impossible for an Indian to go a day without blaming Pakistan on an unrelated topic about all the problems in the world?

Who knows next time they might blame their birth on ISI..

Of course the blame lies with Maldives for accepting Pakistani preachers and extremists along with Saudi ones. What makes you think they are blameless in this?

The point here was that Maldives has become radicalized on a mass scale and consequently caught the 'more Muslim and Sunni than Saudi syndrome' which has led to them stopping relations with Iran..

...and those that gave this virus of extremism to them were Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

This has naught to do with Pakistan's behaviour on a State level with Iran but rather the outcome of any country having its population mixed and exposed to the Pakistani population and allowing preachers from Pakistan to enter their land.

.
What does Maldives have to do with Saudis and Iranians? What an idiotic decision.
Budget Deficit .Maldive was a magnet for tourism but for some reasons in recent years they go there lesser and lesser.

I am glad you have finally come to the conclusion that all blame is not Pakistan's but Maldives also shares some blame for inviting these extremists. What made me think they were blameless? I don't know, maybe this?:

"You forget one thing - Pakistan, the wannabe Saudi Arabia

He started the first Arabic-medium schools and replaced the liberal Islamic studies textbooks that were taught with until then with a stricter version he imported from the Middle East. Students coming out of these Islamic schools went to study in Islamic universities in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.

If an earlier generation of Maldivians came back to preach, today an even more radicalized lot is picking up the gun. Maldivians who have gone to Saudi and Pakistani madrassas (seminaries) to continue their studies, especially those who studied in seminaries like the Jamia Salafia Islamia at Faisalabad, which has produced several al-Qaeda and Lashkar-e-Taiba leaders, have been drawn into jihadi networks.

I mean you couldn't just leave Pakistan out of an unrelated thread could you? The bug that Maldives caught from Pakistan, came from the Saudis. At least accept this much and stop blaming Pakistan for being the root of the problem while itself has caught the bug from someone else who's role was not as much highlighted by you as that of Pakistan's'.

And again at the end you narrow down this decision of Maldives by a typical Indian response to problems in other nations by saying, "This has naught to do with Pakistan's behaviour on a State level with Iran but rather the outcome of any country having its population mixed and exposed to the Pakistani population and allowing preachers from Pakistan to enter their land."

So again, I ask you, how on earth is this decision by the Maldives government related to Pakistan or Pakistani groups? Please show me where the Pakistan government or Mullahs have instructed the government of Maldives for taking the above decision. This decision was solely motivated by their desire to cosy up to the Saudis, and not influenced by Pakistan or Pakistani groups.

Well it's a small country, but it's beautiful. So one less tourist destination for persians to visit.

I love how pan-Arabs get such a kick out of hurting 'Persians'... lol They're so hysterical, it's cute. I'm sorry we haven't been able to pay much attention to you. Unfortunately we have to deal with more important people right now. But I tell you what, as soon as we don't have anything else to do, we will invite you to the Persian Gulf, and we'll have some Persian tea and pastry and play a set of the Persian game of backgammon, so you don't feel neglected. How about that?

one can hurt arabia by sanctions of food - arabia is desert. saudis are the biggest obstacle to united ummah, i would say iran is abit of cocky kitten but she knows she still has to obey otherwise that tail will be stepped on. maldives have sold thier soul for wahabi- oil, now taste those sweet bombs. pakistan needs to stay neutrel and dance as usual like heer mendhi.

is it just impossible for an Indian to go a day without blaming Pakistan on an unrelated topic about all the problems in the world?

Well brother, I hope they don't put food sanctions on pan-arabs, cause nobody deserves that. As a kid who grew up on government food rations, I know it's no fun. I really feel that Saudis and other pan-arabs are not evil people. They are just backward and ignorant. But they are not unique in that respect. So are we and so is everybody else to some degree. The fact is that if it wasn't for their oil wealth and consequently their ability to throw their weight around, their backwardness and ignorance wouldn't be magnified to such a degree.

Regarding Iranians being cocky kittens, you have to keep in mind that we've been struggling to maintain our independence against overwhelming odds, for the past 150 years or so. So that's been somewhat ingrained in us. But as our country becomes more secure, we need to check our attitude and not become cocky and overconfident. And there, i agree with you...

it cos of those saudis the muslim world suffered the most. we hear about rape in europe by migrants but what about rape of iraqi girls or iraqi girls selling themselves to buy medcine for family.

They are not backward they are part of the scheme to screw muslims over they were put there by british rothchilds.

The only decent one was gaddafi sure he had his mistakes but this guy challenged bankers including saddam.

even shah was good at one point he was bringing iran to industralization so he had to go.

But pakistan has had worse leaders becuase they know the truth but they are sly and squeeze the peasants till they commit sucide.

You are giving them too much credit bro... These were essentiallly highway robbers and brigands without much culture and civilization who were given a state by the British. You need to understand and keep that in mind about them. What do you expect would happen? It's the intellectual and moral failure of other muslims who follow these people and who sell themselves to their dollars, that gives these people the power to wreak havoc around the world. Otherwise, they would just be another archaic society to be studied by anthropologists as a window to how primtive man lived.
