What's new

Malaysia offers $ 5-6bn for construction of Bangabandhu Airport

This will be done through public private partnership to keep some government hold on the project but bulk of the investment will be made by private investor.

Neither you or Iajdani know on plundering scheme currently at work, Iajdani was saying its private investment and when that logic failed to jystify now you came up with PPP to justify land grabbing scheme. What an Awami thugs show! Take it to the street there will be some entertainment.

Whatever you do ... dnt include any comment of Ershad... Is it not the same person who few days back said no election without care taker government but just couple of days back he said he will stop caretaker government even by giving his life... :cheesy:\

If we go by your logic then all the garments that has been destroyed has also done spontaneously by the garments workers isnt it???

No such vandalism or protest can not happen without political backing... Period.

My awami league...

Now that your "BNP created unrest" lie exposed you are trying to take shelter behind completely different topic of garments. Looks like desperation setting in. You may want to report back to your Awami handler that latest looting scheme will not be a easy sail.

As Awami regime to build the padma bridge which is more important for Bangladesh first.

I just lolled... For any private investment it require land and it dose not come for free. Even to make the EPZ government needs to take private or public property and it is no different....

We need to bring Bangladesh in the international radar and this airport could be a good project but more feasibility study and planning needs to be done.

It was crystal clear BNP or like minded party was behind the unrest in ariel bill.

It was clear that BNP does not want a different airport which does not bear name of Zia. AL does not want a airport which bears the name of Zia.
But we need an airport. AL should name the new airport Zia airport so that all discontent disappear.

What BNP wants does not matter here. In case of deep sea port three years ago you made claim Bangladesh would raise per captial income to $5000 with deep sea port but could not prove such claim. And where is the deep sea port today? Now Prove the business and cost justification for this Awami league airport.

What about naming it to the third person... Fazlul Haque or Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy???

. . .
name does not matter, prove business and cost justifcation first.

Well, the information on the article is vague at best. All this thread is doing is going around in circles :cheesy:

Bangladesh does have tremendous potential in the tourism sector. It's just that Bangladeshis do not invest much such that it yields significant returns. I wonder why we need foreigners to do it.

Still fail to see how this new airport will benefit considering the current one has more than enough capacity.

.
1) Is building a new airport an economic or infrastructure priority for Bangladesh? Answer is NO.

2) Should this investment be used in more pressing needs of power generation and industrial expansion? Answer is YES.

3) Is current international airport is out of capacity? Answer is NO. Only around 70% capacity is currently been used and there is already airport land for runway and terminal expansion.

4) Has there been any fesibility study by independent body to justify need and usage fator for such new airport? Answer is NO.

5) Does an airport of this size cost $5-$6 billion? Answer is NO.

6) So why Awami league embarking on such white elephant project? Simple answer Bangobondhu name has became symbol and vehicle for Awami league corruption. This airport will be used for valuable land grab and massive multi billion dollars corruption by Awami league and their indian origin Malaysian partner in crime.

Problem is it wouldn't look fit naming Zia International Airport as Bangabandhu International Airport as Mujib is father of the nation  (!!!) and Zia is nothing to bal. So hasina thought of one new airport named after Mujib. At least airport is the genre of infrastructure where naming system starting with Bangabandhu couldn't take place yet whereas this brand has already entered in space (Bangabandhu Satellite-1) .

.
I think, the new airport will be limited to the newspapers. It is certain to become a paper tiger. Political govts in Bangladesh are shameless. This AL govt is using the name of Malaysia to build an airport that will not really be built. But, it may bring back AL popularity.

BD does not need any new airport. The present one can be enlarged with the addition of another runway at the BAF's small runway that runs parallel to the existing runway at Shahjalal airport. Govt can acquire this small runway, buy the land at the two ends and build a new runway there. It will serve the purpose perfectly.

I believe, Qatar has already promised (?) on the runway that I am talking about. This runway will serve the purpose. In addition, GoB should demolish the existing terminal building and construct a modern one.

Sorry to interfere, we don't need airport for Dhaka any more but we need some on other cities for better communication. For example, Khulna being a divisional headquarter doesn't have airport. We have been hearing of an airport from childhood, it's all false pledges.

YOu need to get some passenger first before asking for airport. All the airport except Sylhet, Chittagong are white elephant. You have an airport in Jessore but never made any profit or passenger.

.
Are you sure there's not an extra zero in there? Cause 72000 is equal to almost 300 KM[SUP]2[/SUP]. Thats as big as the whole Dhaka city which is is around 350 KM[SUP]2[/SUP] !

Area of Dhaka city is almost 1000 sq. km.

What is the area of dhaka city

So finally Sheikh Hasina sending her father name to "Jannat" in char?

How this $5-$6 billion dollars foreign investment will be recovered?

Bangladesh does not have nowhere near air/cargo traffic volume that can justify such investment and cost? For example, Dubai $4.5 billion terminal 3 which handles bulk of Dubai's 50 million passenger traffic. Compared to that Bangladesh handles only 6 million.

Simply put Bangladesh does not have passenger or business case to spend $5-$6 billion on airport.
Upgrade and modification can do the job fine for years to come.

If airport chanrges more than any regional airport for landing fee and service, no airlines will tolerate that.

Lots of pacers we are getting in future who'll practice on idle runway there. Also, for cyclists that runways will be hot, healthy place.

.
Nomally these chars are populated and allocated to people who lost their land in river errosion. You claimed this to be private investment and now you are handing over 6000 acres of khash land to private investors. Your corrupt and duplicit mind could not be more clear.
Now you are talking like commies which we can expect from BAL supporters but not from a BNP supporter.:D

You are supportive of new airport. Fine but can you explain me why I can not fly directly to Sylhet from USA? Why do I have to land in Dhaka. Why evrey goddamn thing in bd is Dhaka centric? So how the f new airport will accommodate me when I have to go through same BS?

In-bound passengers who desire to go other domestic destinations have to come to Dhaka, and then board another domestic flight to go to their final destinations.

Neither you or Sami have answered my question other than ranting about BNP fanboys flaming over the new airport (i.e. the arial beel incident), justifying that it's some private investment, and the name of the airport. Zero facts whatsoever.

Let's look at some facts here.

The current airport has an annual capacity to handle 8 million passengers with the current infrastructure in place. And has many options to expand more. There's still a lot of land there.

As far as accommodating the A380 is concerned, it only needs an extended runway, which isn't difficult or costly.

The current annual is 2 million outbound, and 1.8 million inbound (approx.). This is not from me, but from IATA itself.

So how do you justify a new multi-billion dollar airport considering that the current one is much more than enough to handle the present and future capacity?

You know what's the best name? Dhaka International Airport. Yes, it is that freaking simple.
