Making India the second nuclear submarine INS Arhidaman

According to the sources,
S3 and S4 are the elongated versions( aka longer ones) with 6-8 tubes for vertical launch Agni SLBM/ Sagarikas.S3 was suppossed to be launched this december and S4 by 2013 March . With the launch of S4, Arihant series will take a halt. And Gen 2 subs will start coming out.
currently the number of Gen2 nuke subs meant for launching SLBMs are still under discussions.
Also parallel to gen2 SBN`s hunter killer SSGN`s possibly be armed with Brahmos-2 will be built at a different ship yard( me believing it would be L&T for hunter killers)
GOI is trying to make up the sub numbers with nuclear ones instead of going with the previously meant 24 conventional subs.DE subs will be pegged at 18. current 6 scorpene + additional 12. these 18 are all to be built before 2027
Honestly no concrete numbers on the total number of SGN`s and SBN`s.But total sub strenght will cross 30 as per reports.

Currently there is no problem with building high tonnage nuclear subs. BARC can scale up the reactor for the specific displacement. The need of the day is more R&D in sonars and stealth capabilities. there are couple of other long range torpedoes on drawing board,will be reality in another 5-6 years time. But we need to move quick on stealth and reactor fueling capabilities.

brother i agree although this arihant class submarine is not quite as close to U-571 in terms of performance in shallow waters but still the stealth features that it incorporates is better than Arjun and other MBT's in the same league but the main point that makes it unique is that it can almost hit mach-1 in a dive and the sonic boom created is merged into its engine thereby reducing its heat signals......the anti aircraft gun made by ISRO that is installed on its deck can fire surface to air missiles too....lets hope the production goes smoothly and without any funds shortage

Govt sanctioned total 5 SSBN/SSGN. The first three will be same. Actually L&T built two more hulls after INS Arihant. The 4th and 5th submarines might be larger.
