Major operation launched against Maoists, 1,000 troops in Bastar jungles

Are the bhartee forces trained in jungle warfare?

Quite well. But this is not the Indian army that's engaging the naxals. Its the Central Reserve Police Force personnel. If its the CRPF Cobra which is being sent after them then it will be bad for the naxals if its regular CRPF jawans then the naxals will march deeper into the forests and eventually shake the pursuit. Akin to the the 2006 assault which brought the naxals to the table, killed their main leader and cleared them from 20+ districts. A minister has died, one of the exalted ones- who are only supposed to kick the bucket out of old age after having supped richly on the people's money, so ya the naxals are in trouble. :laughcry:

Have naxals used booby traps akin to Vietnamese booby traps in the past?

Oh yes they have...but they are trapped in this area..unlike in Vietnam. Ever since we killed off their upper leadership through encounters and outright guile and trickery different groups of naxals and area commanders are at each others throats. Recently another big leader of the naxal was killed in a gunfight between two naxal groups. This has ruined their logistical trail. Fools, they set out to defend their lands and the mining companies just bought their leaders and got the lands anyway..while they fight with government these companies are already running tenders for scores of roads and complete industrialization projects.

In that case let's wait and see how the operation turns out.

Ok , here's one which might answer your query .

Is there any guerrilla force that has not used booby traps ??

In Pakistan, Taliban can only use ied as a trap.

In jungles, there are many traps that can be used because of density of brush and poor visibility.

That is true . Lets see how it turns out .

So all you bhartees have no clue on the tactics of the Naxals?

What a waste.

Perhaps you didn't see the answers given out clearly.

You want details:-

The naxals are facing the CRPF, the reserve police force.
Their tactics are limited to:-

1) They will never stand and fight for the fear of getting outflanked. They will draw the regular personnel into the foliage and take them in deeper where drone recon is useless.

2) They have a very good HUMINT network to their credit and can generally outmaneuver the general area dominance parties sent after them.

3) They can out endure the common reserve police personnel as well.

4) With reference to booby-traps, they've used elephant pits and some nasty improvised kinetic traps..but those have run out of favor since the jawans on the ground are proficient at evading them. They have switched to covering a homemade pressure mine with a casualty so as to target first responders or evac personnel, that's the new flavor.

5) Faced with the CRPF Cobra they are generally forced to stand and fight since they cannot pull them in a chase..the Cobras can operate within the jungles just as long as any naxal group or "action-tukdi".

As to your wondering of what will happen, the same that happened in 06 and 08, plenty of naxals will die..leaders specially..we'll have a period of relative peace for 2 years and then the cycle will start up again albeit weaker than before..rinse and repeat.
