The other injured lieutenant is a Burki, an ethnic tribal of Waziristan.

The strenght of TTP is around 50K and to protect their commander i think it is totally believable that 2500 fighters were brought in from across the border.

Their max strength would be 10k if Gul Bahadur is considered a part of TTP. Don't forget that they pay their fighters monthly salaries, so a lot of them are in it just for the money.
