TEHRAN (ISNA)- Iranian researchers at Tehran University are building the third generation of Humanoid robot known as ‘Sorena 3′ with advanced capabilities which will be unveiled in less than two years.

The robot can climb steps and inclined surface, turn point and speak.

The Iranian characteristics are to be included in the region. The expert technical designers have gathered to design it in a beautiful appearance.

The national plan of applied robotic development inspired by the nature started in Iran in January 201h.

‘Sorena 1′ and ‘Sorena 2′, the first humanoid robots were unveiled respectively in 2009 and 2011. The third one under construction would be unveiled by the next two years.

‘Sorena 3′ with speed 7 time more than previous versions, can climb the step and inclined surface, turn point with increasing level of sagacity, capability of identifying and answering in Persian as well as identifying and answering the images.

UNDERWATER ROBOTICS COMPETITIONS
The 12th annual MATE international ROV competition will take place June 20-22, 2013 at theWeyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Washington, USA.
The 2013 MATE competition highlights the role that ROVs play in the installation, operation, and maintenance of regional cabled ocean observing systems.
Students from Islamic Azad University, Izeh Branch in Khuzestan Province, southwestern Iran, sent their documents for the tournament last March. Their requests for joining the match were later accepted by the US submarine training center.

The matches scheduled to be held in Washington will run on June 20-22, to be attended by NASA, the world's large oil companies as well as rivals from the US, Britain, Russia, China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand.

The students are the only representatives of Iran in the event.

The university's students have also managed to build underwater robots locally. The
equipments required for construction of the robot were formerly imported from other
countries, but now they are built locally.

Underwater robots can be used in oil, dam-building and digging industries.
