Iran used to manufacture 8 mm Mauser rifles since before second world war and these guns were the standard issue for Iranian army at the time. The guns are known as Persian Mauser rifles outside of Iran. The two latest models manufactured by Iran were: a long one based on German Kar98k and a short carbine based on German G30. These guns were also extensively used and loved by Iranian nomads among whom even women had to learn horse back target shooting. Persian Mauser is now a collectible item around the world specially in US gun market both because of its rarity outside Iran and also because of its high quality. Inside Iran it is nowadays mostly used by Mullahs as a symbolism during Friday prayer sermons. The gun has a long history in Iran and versions of it were used by likes of Iranian hero Rais Ali Delvari to female Imperial army guards as well as depicted in numerous movies:

Not really. The actual cal. was 7.92 mm which used to be shortened as 8 mm when talking about the gun. But technically it was a 7.92x57 mm. British 303 was 7.7x56 mm.

PS. There are actually two models apparently one 7.92x57 and another 7.92x60.

Here is a video made by an Iranian gun collector living in France showing his collection of Persian Mauser Carbines and their bayonets:
