Made-in-India warship to be largest in Sri Lankan Navy’s fleet

Right on the money about the bragging - their media will not let it alone with even small achievements, of which there is not a lot to go around, unfortunately. Reported his comment for racist and crude reference.

Says someone from a country with 'world-class shipbuilding industry' which still can't build corvettes for itself. And oh, one that brags about making TOR bars from recycled ship scrap.

Developing critical steels & other alloys for submarines & the nuclear sector is no easy feet.

Stop cheerleading for the Chinese...

Its bigger then some of the frigates your navy operates.

Please don't compare builds with China to embarrass yourselves.

Size only constitutes where a ship goes (draught) and how long it patrols, it says nothing about armament or capability, which is why a frigate is called a frigate.

Indian govt. (MoD) begged the Sri Lankans for the business to build this OPV. For that matter they begged us too (for some Coast Guard builds at GRSE), we turned them down however. We can build these things ourselves.

And this platform is perfectly capable of taking that sort of armament.

No not the Saryu, but GSL's 76m patrol vessel with SSMs.

Also,

He said GSL has the technology to construct next generation missile boats and missile corvettes which will strengthen Indian Navy's prowess off shore.

More BS from a serial liar. Sri Lankans have always used Indian made vessels.

For that matter they begged us too (for some Coast Guard builds at GRSE), we turned them down however. We can build these things ourselves.

Too much boasting from an LDC- any deal with your country is troublesome, since we have to finance it with soft loans & aid. And you can only build small 600 tonne patrol vessels.

I think they gave the Sri Lankan 'aid' so that they can buy this ship. The thing is except for the hull, everything seems to be imported, not sure about the steel tho. =)

Butt-hurt Chinese are back...

What happened dear, did your brain stop working just like those great Chinese gas turbines on the Type 052D destroyer ?

The Sri Lankan Navy is on the verge of commissioning its largest warship, which has been built in India under a Rs 1,000-crore contract inked four years ago for two such vessels.

The manufacturer, state-owned Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), will deliver the first offshore patrol vessel to the Sri Lankan Navy at a ceremony at the yard on July 22.

The 105-metre long warship, with a displacement of around 2,400 tonnes, is expected to be commissioned into the Sri Lankan Navy on August 2.

“It will be the largest warship to be operated by the Sri Lankan Navy. It is also the largest warship to be exported by an Indian shipyard. The step will deepen naval ties between the two countries,” Rear Admiral Shekhar Mital told HT from Goa.

The shipyard has beaten the deadline for delivering the warship because of which the Sri Lankan Navy will induct the vessel almost three months ahead of the scheduled delivery. Sri Lanka will get the second warship in February 2018, again three months ahead of schedule.

Such patrol vessels carry out several roles including fleet support operations, maritime surveillance, defence of offshore installations and escorting high value ships.

Capable of reaching a top speed of 25 knots, the vessels have been designed to accommodate a helicopter on their flight decks.

The shipyard will also deliver a fast patrol vessel to Mauritius on August 9, the 14th such vessel to be delivered to that country during the last two years.
