Royal Enfield launches Bullet 500 at Rs 1.54 lakhPTI : New Delhi, Tue Apr 16 2013, 17:35 hrs

Eicher Motors' two-wheeler arm Royal Enfield today said it has launched new Bullet 500, priced at Rs 1.54 lakh (on-road, Delhi).

"The iconic Bullet motorcycle gets a new lease of power today with the launch of the Royal Enfield Bullet 500 in India," the company said in a statement. The 500 cc motorcycle will be available at Rs 1,53,855 (on road price for Delhi) and it will be launched in a phased manner across the country, it added.

Initially, the bike will be launched in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi-NCR and Kerala that have traditionally been the best markets for the Bullet. Royal Enfield Senior Vice President (Sales and Marketing) Shaji Koshy said: "The Bullet 500 is a much-awaited model and while designing the bike for the Indian market, we worked with the preferences of our special Bullet-loving audience here."

Bullet is the oldest motorcycle in continuous production with a fiercely loyal customer base across the world, he said. It comes with a host of new features such as front disc brakes, rear gas shock absorbers, telescopic front suspensions, pillion backrest and an electric start.

OK the front profile is misleading. The side and rear looks like absolute crap.

The rear is like how Clarkson described Chrysler Crossfire, "It looks like a dog doing a shyte"

Engine is a puny 2L, 240 BHP V4 sourced from Ford. A true sports car should have a V8 with a 300+ BHP.

Its been designed as a "people carrier". For any vehicle to sell successfully in that segment of the market in India; it must be economic to run. That means fuel efficiency. Auto manufacturers in India achieve that by using slightly under-powered diesel engines.
That van is not for auto-lovers, just entrepreneurs/businessmen.

Thats what people said about bikes a decade ago. But thank god Bajaj woke us up. Now we enjoy the Naked Sport, Duke, CBR, Ninja, R15 etc etc. Or we would be stuck with Splendors and CD100s.

Another 'Pulsar' is needed for the Indian car industry.

The India vibe will reverberate around the world and boost Global sales. Mini should be smart and launch Indie Mini Vs. Mere Dad Ki Mrooti in all segments. India is a fultoo Englandian type, not Jappo type market. Silly if Mini don't.

Practically priced to boot Vs. other local ports car types, mostly MB, Beemer or Aud.

I'm thinking of booking 1 but not really an early adopter re: Made in India cars.
