Made in India Vehicles

While agreeing to you on most of the above points, my point was only to sub 125 cc's. There is another safety aspects to it. Scooter industry in India is growing above 10% where as motor cycle is de growing, and the trend is likely to continue as the customers are looking for convenience..... And who uses this scooters, The entire family, and Disc brakes have its safety issues, as the efficiency is much higher than that of a normal drum brake.....With scooters having smaller wheels it is not going to be safe.... Especially when an inexperienced driver uses it..... To reduce the risk, manufacturers reduces the disc size, and by that you reduces the braking efficiency.....

While principally; reducing the size of the discs in disc brakes reduces the braking efficiency, all brakes (including discs) are designed to match engine torque. So that mismatch that you are thinking about, will not be there on a well-designed vehicle. Even the disc size and brake calliper pad sizes have to be matched. This is taken care of by designers.

What is much more worrisome is the driving habits of Indian motorists which are simply awful. No designer can compensate for that; neither can Govt. effective legislate measures to prevent that.

I work in this industry :P for about 20 years now :P

Not only the driving habbits but also the maintanance habbits, Yesterday i happened to see a brake pad which didnot have pad in it only the metal, and i was feeling sorry for the disc..... Indians try to take maximum out of every part, They use the tyre till it start looking like a tube..... and imagine having an effective brake with such tyre grip.....

We need to go a long way before implementing such measures.....

LOLLL, Agreed!
About "Skinflint" guys; the less said the better...... I know of Retread/Remoulded tyres; they are economical but also a safety compromise beyond a point. But have you heard of "Re-cut" tyres? If you have'nt, then ask around.
Sometimes; I wonder how the insurance companies even accept Indian Motorists as acceptable insurance risks!

I would say, ABS should be implemented in every vehicle if disc break is made compulsory........ ABS increases braking efficiency and safety as well...

This is what i could find in youtube.... Watch 1.30 onwards...

Government is contemplating making ABS and frontal Airbags mandatory for new cars but 30000 rupees price increase per car will reduce the market as per car manufacturers.. I remember reading this in tbhp.

Yes SIAM is opposing this move.....First it sould be done on heavy vehicles to start with..... Lot of accidents by transport bus could be avoided with this move

Well; somebody has to pay for that too.
Will the "skinflint" Indian Motorist be willing to do so? :D

If both made mandatory.... then the a 2wheeler buyer will have to pay another 12 thousand rupees..... Driving a bike with ABS in rain ...........

HCV will have mandatory ABS from 2015. back in the 80s the rusty leylands have no power steering even..until I think government made it mandatory.

Yeah i remember those days when the cleaner/helper used to help the driver when they wanted to turn the vehicle.... And also the first gear of buses(the gear normally they skip) they really had to struggle to put it in first gear

Nissan to drive in Infiniti, plans to assemble in India

Infiniti, the luxury brand of Japanese car major Nissan, will assemble cars in India, looking to tap into the growing appetite of Indians for expensive cars.

The brand, which competes globally with German makers such as BMW, Audi and Mercedes Benz, is looking to start assembly operations at Nissan's Chennai factory, Nissan's chief planning officer Andy Palmer said.

"It is inevitable that Infiniti will come to India," Palmer told TOI when asked whether the brand will enter this market. "But it needs to be when we have got the right products and the bandwidth to be able to do it. So it is not immediately round the corner but I am pretty sure that it will happen."
