Made in India Vehicles

Patenteer, I have the same bike, and I am a member of a pan-Indian biking group(but founded in B'lore of course), dedicated to the 200NS, and we never ride without our safety gear. We hold rallies and campaigns to promote safe riding. ;)

Re: VW, expect mega investment news perhaps after elections. VW plans to be # 1 car player in a few yrs. and India is the hold-up. Word is VW has a slew of uber low cost designs on India. Germany is booming amidst a sinking EU, Global markets are saturated and India is still thde center of the world's largest regional market.

China is VW owned. Brazil is VW & Fiat. Russia is open season but also Fiat-Lada & VW. India and ASEAN is the only hole in the VW game.

Re: the India economic boom of the last dozen yrs.; it's interesting to note that Indian vehicle prices have relatively fallen specially if you factor in appropriate choice. Made in India Escorts 'inverter' tractors, Tata Ace, Piaggio Ape 4 wheleer's or TVS 3 wheelers not Made in India Audi or Volvo.

Indian Co.'s could take a lead out of the desi telecom biz. by paring down some of their vehicles, knocking off prices and growing the client base massively. Then again, what do I know.

Otherwise, Renault will come out with a cheap Duster pick up and knock both Mahindra and Tata pick ups. Or Ashok or Nissan come out with a minivan Dost or Evalia knocking Suzuki and Toyota.

Indian vehicles, cheap and appropriate like Tata trucks and Mahindra pickups, may add 1-2 % to Pak economy.

Congratulations to Mr. Lal, neat revival!

To scale up to even Indian levels, you'll need 10 such factories.
Royal Enfield being a pedigree brand, bespoke and oldest surviving bike brand Globally; maybe 25 factories with many overseas.

A new mgmt. team, Global mindset needed. I'd follow Mahindra's model and head to S.Africa, Nigeria and Kenya. Australia. UK. Then a mix of fab. plant and sales office in China, Brazil. Canada, EU, and US last.


Thanks for salvaging an iconic Indian brand. Now will you pls. revive Yezdi, BSA and Jawa and become the father of Indian motorcycle industry rather than just Enfield ;).

Nice, this kind of work moving to India is good.

It's mid-range, semi-skilled work and would normally land in China.
Indian Co.'s are surprisingly among the world's largest small engine and pump makers.
Many Global makers also have sizable operations in India, eg. Perkins, Cummins etc.
So an entire small-to-medium engine eco-system is in place.

The s/w design industry can evolve to serve local industry one day and may lead to interesting collaborations.
In-house and outside engine design studios are also growing up. Someone should focus on a good, CNG+Kerosene+diesel small engine for the masses.

CHENNAI, AUG. 23:
Commercial vehicle maker Ashok Leyland has launched Neptune, a new engine platform that promises better life and fuel efficiency.

Designed and developed in-house, the Neptune engine, with a modular sub-system design, has been benchmarked for lower maintenance, longer life, greater reliability, superior noise, vibration and harshness characteristics and lower life-cycle cost, said a press release.

The Neptune engine will be available in BS-III and BS-IV versions and is also package protected for BS-V and BS-VI. The engines range from 160 HP to 380 HP and will be deployed across a range of trucks and buses in a phased manner, the release added.

Vinod K. Dasari, Managing Director, said: “The engine platform has come through over two million km of trials in the most demanding of operating conditions. With Neptune, we are confident of strengthening our position in the medium and heavy commercial vehicle space.”

...Somehow..Ashok Leyland doesn't seem to have a good design team...
Wht inspired them to make this vehicle look like this..
A Rhino or a Pig...
To me it seems the later one....Poor design and no doubt ..will not last long...
Poor owners of the few sold units will have to shell thousands for the spare parts...

Nice piece, bigger engine Vs. low price.

Tata must drop a juicy hybrid into the hatch and take on Toyota, at the right price.
Gr8 gap in the Global market right under the Toyota Hi-Lux. Hyundai is the right inheritor for this gap, but Hyundai is not present in the Pick-Up market.

Tata has a multi-generation truck pedigree. Tata's new Xenon must leverage Tata's long trucking history and move right into this Toyota's shadow, the other Japanese and US pick-up's are over-priced.
