Chinese cars have improved a lot during the past decade; they are now almost up to European safety standard.

I am puzzled by how and where indians gain so much confidence in making claims like: india make better quality goods than China, or india make high-tech stuff, while China only make stuff using cheap labour ... blabla.. Just because they literally make nothing as compared to China, so they can make better and higher-tech things? Weird logic.. Can any body help explaining such strange mentality of indians?

China's production is nearly 30 million with more than 40% (this is about 12 million) by domestic brands (such as Great Wall Haval, Geely, and BYD, etc. and these main stream domestic brands all make their self-developed engines and gear boxes), while indian production is barely 4.5 million, and 80% of which are dominated by Suzuki and Hyundai little midget cars, while domestic brands like Tata and Mahindra only have a combined 10% or so market share, and this also applies to their exports, which they claim to have surpassed China. Lol.. as more than 90% of auto exports are from our domestic brands. And since we can't even meet our domestic demands, why should us export??

This is just the tip of the iceberg, for other industries, the gaps are even bigger. "Make in india" is not about "Make" at all, but about "talk"... It really really sucks!

Some more facts about india's car industry:
On the domestic brand part: annual sales of around 300,000 (about 1/3 of Haval's annual sales of 938,000 unit alone) and exports of around 10,000 Mahindra and Tata cars, pretty much sums up india's domestic home grown car industry, other brands's sales are just negligible..
On the foreign brand part: mostly dominated by Suzuki and Hyundai midget cars..

Pakistan is totally irrelevant here. Point is Indian manufactured goods are trash compared to Chinese goods.

That Pakistanis always look towards alternative to India.

I never buy Indian products.

It's the same frog in the well syndrome, until a few years ago, they didn't even know they are more polluted than China, actually they are the most polluted country on earth.

I know about Indian quality first hand...they make crap and then claim it's WORLD CLASS. Then they will argue with you if you claim otherwise.

Lax regulations in India, poorly placed customer priority combined with cut throat competition when it comes to pricing has led to these poor ratings- and not the fact these vehicles are produced in India. The regulations are getting more stringent thats leading to higher spec safety as standard.

Also basing your argument solely on crash rating shows how unintelligent/ill informed you are.

Honda, Ford, Hyundai, Toyota, VW all manufactured and sold cars without air bags and even altered frames/crumple zones to Indians. So, going by your foolish logic, just based on safety ratings - The few Chinese manufacturers that had good crash ratings make the whole Chinese auto industry surpass the Americans, Japanese, Korean and German auto industries, right?
Other countries with lax regulations and rules get the same-very poorly equipped cars when it comes to safety. What will amaze even you more is that cars manufactured in India are exported to other countries according to their higher safety spec. What about that make in India?

Coming to the actual car industry and not just safety ratings of entry level $5000-$8000 cars-
If I were you I would never boast about an auto industry that dwells in making cheap imitations. I dont know whats most shameful: the cheap imitations themselves or the public with its crass taste buying these, or the government protecting these BS companies. I remember Rolls Royce had to sue giant Chinese car maker Geely because- apparently the Geely copy was so horrendous that RR thought it hurt their brand image.
