Residential furniture is a major export item in Bangladesh - being labor-intensive. Recently there has been massive local investment to drive furniture exports by several large firms. Some videos and images about local offerings. Although a bit overstuffed and frequently gaudy - these are made to appeal to buyers' OEM tastes in overseas markets rather than any planning/design on the exporters' part.

Paper Industry in Bangladesh has effectively quadrupled in output for the last ten years - yet cannot keep pace with local demand because the end-uses have gone up many-fold,

1. Writing paper (Demand from schools because of increased educational/literacy budget)
2. Sanitary uses (diapers, bath and facial tissue, feminine hygiene, geriatric uses)
3. Specialty uses (cigarettes)
4. Packaging uses (craft and liner paper for export packaging)

One of the smaller mills, BDG has several units - the one below specializes in 22lb/80gsm writing/printing paper.

After conquering the garments export challenge (USD25 Billion a year currently) - Bangladesh is now ready and poised to carry on the second export-market victim of Chinese loss-of-subsidy, shoes. Bangladesh has already been home to fairly large presence of Korean and Taiwanese shoe-buying firms. But this is really starting to be on a roll now. I highlight the products of one such firm, Legacy Footwear Ltd. whose products are actually not in the bargain basement category.
