Recent design innovations in local-made marine transport - introduction of shallow draft catamaran designs with aluminum hulls and FRP (Fiberglass) superstructure. Pretty fast - as fast as you can get with conventional water-screws as opposed to water-jets. Probably in the region of 30 knots plus.

Enjoy the view of the Meghna in full monsoon abundance.

Another development is modern superstructures, almost space-ship like. These are from Adventure Shipping's own yard in Barisal, which has become the fifth largest hub of shipbuilding after Narayanganj, Khulna, Chittagong and Meghna-Ghat.

Adventure 5

This is the maiden trial to break her sea-legs...

Being built at the Barisal yard

Chittagong Steelworks...they fabricate many heavy structural items like towers, telescopic poles etc.

CSW in involved in manufacturing of lattice steel towers for telecommunication companies and electrical power utilities. CSW is also manufacturing and supplying steel gantry structures for power utilities.

The company has its own design and shop-drawing facility for Fabrication of Green field and Rooftop. Towers of different sizes and specifications to provide customer with a customized solution. The company has a number of professional Engineers engaged for this purpose. The company is the authorized user of many specialized software for the design of various types of structures.

The company already gained experience by Fabricating, Supplying and erecting Rooftop Tower and Green field Towers of various sizes for telecommunication network of Banglalink, Airtel and Robi Telecom Company.

CSW has manufactured 132 KV 38, 42 & 50 Meters steel lattice towers to transmit the power generated by Orion Group at Kashipur, Fatullah. The towers have been supplied to Orion Group through their contractor M/s Superior Builders and Engineers Limited in year 2013. The company has the capacity of productions of Transmission Tower about 20,000 MT/ annum.

Automation Engineering
is one of the smaller heavy electrical companies in Bangladesh.

Their product selection varies - but mainly revolve around substation equipment such as the following,

Distribution Transformer & Switchgear:

Transformer2.jpg

Automation Engineering
is manufacturing oil emerged three phase distribution transformers from 50KVa up to 3000KVa. Their transformers are renowned for high performance and reliability. utomation transformers follow specification & manufacturing per BNBC & IEC standards. Each transformer is tested from independent laboratories Like BUET, CUET, BSTI etc.

They also manufacture LT & HT switchgear with components from local manufcaturers, FUJI, Vishay & VITZROTEC etc. The switchgear are also manufactured and tested per IEC standard by the third party laboratory at CUET.

In addition the following are also manufactured
  • Motor Control Center
  • PFI Plant
  • Star Delta Starter
  • Main & Sub Distribution Board

How about one of the smaller shipyards in Bangladesh - Radiant Shipyard. Out of the dozen or so shipyards locally which follow international standards (out of 100 total), this one is one of the smallest, but also very efficient. A microcosm of informal yet quality shipbuilding practiced for ages here in riverine Bangladesh.

Some of their builds below - I will let pictures do the talking....

This is MV Auri - a class of 186 TEU inland and coastal mini container carrier whose design was standardized in Bangladesh about five years ago (about two dozen will be built in the first batch), supposed to connect Dhaka inland container port with nearby ports of CTG, Payra and Matarbari downstream, as well as Vizag and Calcutta in India and those of Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Thailand.

Omera Princess is an inland riverine LPG carrier, first in a series of many such carriers. The 2nd and 3rd vessel are under construction and will be commissioned in due course.

Another mini bulker (probably around 2000 DWT)

Inland Tanker MT Aunim Jalal to be launched (again about 1800 DWT)

Another one with superstructures at both ends, probably for container use as well, looks like about 186 TEU. Lot of private companies are gearing up for the riverine container business.

Radiant shipyard launched another LPG carrier this March - Omera Glory.

Looks like the launch took place post-Du'a-Mehfil and Munazat. :-)

And keel laid for another LPG carrier for another LPG Outfit (Petromax) which is probably built by now. Omera and Petromax both have refining and LPG bottling facilities in Southern Bangladesh.

Weavers write to PM Modi over Bangladesh's imitation of Banarasi sari
Independent Online Desk
Silk-saree.jpg

Banarasi silk weavers have written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the alleged imitation work of the 'Banarasi silk saree' by Bangladesh.

A letter has been sent to Prime Minister Modi, the Ministry of Textiles and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry by a Geographical Indication (GI) expert regarding the imitation work.

The weavers have urged the government to control the merchandise of fake products that has brought about a slump in the original product's market, despite the silk products securing Geographical Indication (GI) rights.

One of the weavers told ANI, "Business is being affected due to the imitation of our work by Bangladesh despite Banarasi silk products securing Geographical Indication (GI) rights."

Meanwhile, a GI expert Rajnikant said, "A letter has been sent to Prime Minister and Textile Ministry and Commerce Ministry for legal intervention into the matter. Now we got to know that why the demand for our product in the international market is falling and the business of Varanasi's traditional weavers are not registering growth."

According to the weavers, the duplication has resulted in sharp fall in demand of Banarasi sarees made by its actual weavers.

Yes, very competitive in spec and pricing. The reason is that they make their PC/Laptop motherboards and other computer items from a basic level locally and can design and configure their motherboards how they like.

What this means (bigger picture) is that we are manufacturing motherboards from scratch locally with wave soldering facilities and surface mount devices (components) pick and place machines. Chip manufacturing (FAB) is not feasible yet, but it is the same case all over the subcontinent as it requires expensive investments.

Soon other manufacturers will follow and we will have local expertise and resource for making all kinds of sophisticated items that depend on motherboards such as computer networking and telecom devices, as well as automation items. The possibilities are without limit.

Most people do not realize how much savings one can get manufacturing your own motherboards, but it is substantial. And the cast has been set for self dependence in this vital field that is essential for our technology future as a nation.

All monitors are also made locally.

I know that it is very early days but I look forward to the day when BD makes it's own CPUs and RAM modules.:D
