Walton, the country’s leading electronics, electrical and automobile manufacturing company, is preparing to export various machinery, parts and raw materials for technology-based industry.

Walton took wide-range of initiatives to produce parts and raw materials for exporting to foreign countries after meeting its demands in Bangladesh.

Walton is a venture of the RB group, which is producing products like refrigerators, TVs, air conditioners, motorcycles and automobiles. Walton had started producing molds earlier to meet its own demands for these products.

Engineer Ashraful Ambia, the operative director (Sourcing Engineer) of Walton, stated that these initiatives would be a milestone in terms of advancement to the country’s industrial sector.

“Local entrepreneurs are highly dependent on foreigners for raw materials; and as a result, production costs of local products are higher than imports,” Engineer Ashraful Ambia added.

“For these reasons, if we produce raw materials on our own, foreign currency will be saved, the prices of the commodities will be reduced and technical skills will be developed as well” the operative director added.

The operative director also stated that labor cost in Bangladesh is comparatively low and Walton’s initiatives are based on labor, so there is a bright future in making machinery and raw materials within the country.

The Engineers concerned in this regard, also said that mold shops and casting plants were continuing in full swing in Walton factories in which parts and raw materials were composed of steel, copper and aluminum.

Walton is also producing Polyol which is used in making insulation layers inside refrigerators.

Setting-up a plant for making Polyol is almost complete which is expected to launch soon and it will be the country’s first Polyol making plant.

This raw material is set to supply to the high quality flexible foam industry as well which in turn supplies mattress, foam, sofa and bed producers etc.

Moreover, a hot melt glue plant is also being set up which is used for lamination within refrigerators, within the furniture industry, in packaging factories and in diaper manufacture.

Meanwhile, hard and soft PVC, the two types of chemical will also be prepared in the PVC compounding plant which is needed in PVC (plastic) compounding process while Pressure Sensitive Adhesive (PSA) is expected to be produced that is a highly valued gum used within the adhesive industry.

Walton’s next projects are Master Batch and Base Polyol plant.

Master Batch is generally used in producing highly qualified plastic products; on the other hand, Base Polyol is recognized as an advanced high tech raw material.

Besides, many more items are being produced in the Walton’s parts components project including drawer, filter, accumulator, different kinds of switch, connector, logo, evaporator, condenser, plastic sheet, rubber magnet, packing belt, lock and key, hinges, electronic control system and LED light while zinc coded steel tube, all kinds of screws and paper making plant will be produced in the next project of parts components.

Research and development department of Walton, however, informed that all the above written parts and raw materials are expected to be produced in Bangladesh by 2016. Before this, the setting-up of plants in different relevant projects will be continued which has already been started and as these tasks conclude, it will take Bangladesh a step closer towards higher grade industrialization.

Walton Hi-Tech Industries Ltd. is the one of the larger manufacturer of multi-stage Refrigerator, Freezer, Air Conditioner, Television and Motorcycle technology locally.

R.B. Group (Parent Company) is one of the top business groups in the country operating since 1977. Walton has become a qualified name in the arena of Electronics, Electrical & Automobile industries in Bangladesh & South Asia.

Runner introduces three new motorcycle models In Bangladesh (Bread and Butter cash cow low-end models)

Runner Automobiles has launched 3 new motorcycle in Bangladesh. They are DURANTO, BIJOY and CHEETA. It is very nice to see that RUNNER AUTOMOBILES slowly creating their own identity. Runner motorcycles sport a high indigenous content, parts are sourced almost completely from their local plant.

We have previously posted about their factory on manufacture of their bikes. Runner Automobiles is one of the leading motorcycle brands in Bangladesh among all the local manufacturers. Runner Motorcycles can be purchased from any part of Bangladesh via installment facilities.

Runner DURANTO

Duranto is the cheapest bike up for sale in Bangladesh currently. The bike isn’t boring to look at but I think Runner Automobiles did their best to work on it, especially with the colors and the sticker job of the bike. The bike is loaded with 80cc engine, though only equipped with kick starter only and spoke tyres but that is what you will get from a 56,000 BDT bike.

The bike has an analog meter, headlight cover, & trapezium mirror. The bike looks very small and I hardly imagine that it will be very easy for two grown ups to ride on the bike comfortably. Though we did not ride the bike; we believe that due to light weight it will have a very good speed.

Specification:

Price: 56,000 BDT
Engine: 83 cc, single cylinder air cooled engine
Power: 5.3 BHP @ 7500 rpm
Torque: 5.0 NM @ 4500 rpm
Mass: 74.5 kg
Braking distance: 11.4 m @ 40 km/h
Fuel Consumption: 56 km/L

Runner BIJOY

It’s an upgrade version of their F100-6A, the bike just got new badge and some little modification which includes a new front headlight cover, new saree guard.

Specification:

Price: 72,000 BDT
Engine: 96 cc, single cylinder air cooled engine
Power: 7.0 BHP @ 8000 rpm
Torque: 6.5 NM @ 6500 rpm
Mass: 96 kg
Braking distance: 12.5 m @ 60 km/h
Fuel Consumption: 50 km/L

Runner CHEETA

Cheeta is upgrade version of their bike Runner Trover. They added a new headlight cover, better seat. It shares the same chassis as Bijoy but it is better looking and has a digital speedometer instead of analog. I find this bike very nice and also I think it is a better buy than Runner Bijoy.

Specification:
Price: 78,000 BDT
Engine: 96 cc, single cylinder air cooled engine
Power: 7.0 BHP @ 8000 rpm
Torque: 6.5 NM @ 6500 rpm
Mass: 96 kg
Braking distance: 12.5 m @ 60 km/h
Fuel Consumption: 50 km/L

Runner Automobiles has confirmed us that they will launch a new stylish 100 cc bike next year which they believe will be their flag ship product and also they will bring a 150cc performance new motorcycle in Bangladesh which will compete with other 150cc motorcycles in the market.

With more than 200 exhibitors and over 400,000 visitors from more than 30 countries, this year's Digital World 2015, held in Dhaka, Bangladesh, was bigger and better than ever before. From 9 to 12 February, Bangladesh showcased its achievements in ICT, including in the IT and ITES industry. The fair also served as a platform for the NTF III Bangladesh project, showcasing how it helps the sector's exports development.

The Netherlands Trust Fund III (NTF III) is a multi-year, multi-phase Dutch-backed project with the International Trade Centre (ITC) to boost export competitiveness in key countries including Bangladesh.

Through the NTF III programme, a delegation of representatives from the Kenya Information Technology & Outsourcing Society (KITOS), the ICT Association of Uganda (ICTAU), the National IT Agency of Uganda (NITA Uganda) and the Uganda Business Process Outsourcing Association (UBPOA) was invited to take part in the flagship event jointly organized by the ICT Division of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology of the Government of Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS), with a view of sharing knowledge with Bangladesh IT association including learning how BASIS had organized the fair and have developed an effective Public Private Partnership model.

The BASIS board met with the delegation to explain their growth over the recent years leading to a 800 member strong, industry association. The East-African delegates were particularly interested in the processes developed around revenue generation and membership management.

Zunaid Ahmed Palak, the ICT State Minister of Bangladesh, welcomed the delegation and said that “a strong partnership with the government in terms of strategy and execution is essential to the development of the industry. My Ministry is playing this role and we hope that our friends from Uganda and Kenya benefit from the same support."

Arancha González, ITC Executive Director, in a statement from Geneva expressed support for this knowledge and experience sharing and stressed "the importance of exchanges between developing countries that face similar hurdles in growing trade in services. Services play a huge role in the functioning of today's value chains. This is why ITC is helping build capacity of developing country SMEs and associations to better benefit from the potential growth and trade opportunities services offer."

Esther Muchiri, Vice-Chairperson of KITOS, said that "this mission has been a total eye opener as we learnt so much. The journey of BASIS and what they have managed to achieve so far is very inspiring. The visits and meetings that were organized for us have given us a new perspective and ideas."

Rogers Karebi, Secretary of the Uganda Business Process Outsourcing Association (UBPOA), showed his enthusiasm after four days at the Digital World.
“We had a very productive and informative trip to Dhaka and a lot was learnt that will help implement the NTF III project in Uganda, and beyond that, enable us to bring our association to the next level”.

Both delegations have returned to Uganda and Kenya with a full work plan to implement the findings from their mission. The NTF III programme will be helping by applying ITC's Aims For Results methodology, which is used to strengthen Trade Support Institutions across the globe.

BASIS and a group of leading Bangladeshi SMEs will have the opportunity to visit Kenya and Uganda to interact with their respective Associations in September 2015.

Well this is not really Made in Bangladesh, but it helps Bangladesh made goods get exported....(by the way atrocious and comical grammar by some noob reporter :-)).

Summit Alliance Port Limited (SAPL) has received the lease of 3 container vessels from Chittagong Port, including one vessel of their own. SAPL now has 4 container vessels, and the country’s first ever private river terminal is about to start its journey very soon, a press release said Saturday.

On Wednesday, 2nd September, the Chairman of the Port Authority Rear Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed handed over the 5-year lease agreement to Mr. Muhammad Aziz Khan, Chairman of Summit Group. Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan was present at the occasion.

The Minister noted that, Ports do not operate ships like shipping lines, and they don’t have the expertise to do so as well. Rather Chittagong Port will gain income of 4.8 million Taka monthly by leasing these three ships to Summit Group.

Muhammad Aziz Khan noted in his speech that Summit Alliance Port started its operation in 1996 handling only 40 containers which has now risen to 2 lac last year. Now it is going to start its river terminal with these 4 ships to handle another 2 lac of container of export-import goods per year.

The SAPL River Terminal is located at Mukhtarpur, Munshiganj, on the Dhaleswary river bank, approximately 26 km from Dhaka. This will allow the transportation of cargo containers carrying import and export goods from and to Chittagong port through the cost-effective, time-efficient and more secure medium of river transportation.

This will ease the pressure on the already over-burdened Dhaka-Chittagong highway as well as reducing fuel consumption which will lead to improving the country’s air pollution level.

Once operational, the river terminal will foster growth in the import-export industry, and it will encourage the use of rivers for the transport of goods and people.

The three vessels leased from Chittagong Port Authority, namely M.V. Pangaon Express, M.V. Pangaon Success, and M.V. Pangaon Vision, are each able to carry approximately 150 containers on average. These are the standard sizes and capacities of inland container ships.

However the SAPL owned larger M.V. SAPL-1 will be able to carry at least 200 containers. In addition, Summit also has 6 more tanker ships for transportation of fuel.

Summit Alliance Port Ltd. (SAPL) is the largest off-dock services provider in Bangladesh and a pioneer in the industry. Recently, the company engaged in container freight transportation and storage has acquired 6 new container vessels.

A handover ceremony was held on Sept. 2nd, 2015 at Chittagong Port to officially transfer ownership of the aforementioned 3 vessels from the Bangladesh Navy to Summit Alliance Port Ltd.

The SAPL River Terminal located on the Dhaleswary river bank in Mukhtarpur, Munshiganj is the first ever private river terminal in Bangladesh.

It is approximately 30 km south of Dhaka. SAPL has completed the construction of this river port including an inland container depot, which is situated on 15 acres of land.

The port will have a handling capacity of 120,000 TEU and a storage capacity of 2,500 TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units).

SAPL, including the previous 1 vessel and now with the acquisition of these 3 vessels with approx. 100-140 TEUs capacity to operate between Chittagong and Dhaka.

Once in operation, the River Terminal will on the one hand help the exporters/importers to be competitive by transporting cargo by the less costly and less time consuming medium of river transportation and on the other hand will ease the pressure on the already overburdened Dhaka-Chittagong highway.

This will allow the transportation of cargo containers carrying import and export goods from and to Chittagong port through the cost-effective, time-efficient and more secure medium of river transportation.

The River Terminal transport will lead to containers carrying import and export goods from Chittagong port in comparatively less time and cost and more securely.
