Made in Bangladesh

Cable manufacturing in Bangladesh dates from Pakistan times (1950's) however lately cable manufacturers have moved up into very specialized cables such as High Voltage (33 KV) ACSR, XLPE, Fire Resistant (FR), as well as Fiber Optic cables. Couple of videos.

Sohana is a local brand that has done quite well in export markets with its home electrics and electronics, in fact the local market for this is more than saturated with local brands (Walton, Sohana etc.), with maybe a tiny (less than 2~3%) fraction held by Japanese and Korean brands. Some Sohana products.

Excellent and Thanks for posting this!

These Green Line guys deserve kudos for their forward thinking! Catamarans will be harder to capsize than monohulls. Any news on where they were built?

This is quite a surprise...:-)

Someone posted a video of the trial ride. The way the speeds are increasing - I wouldn't be surprised to see the newer ones using waterjet engines.

HANDS ON REVIEW
Review: ACI Stylus O65

koookkk.jpg

Shahriar Rahman

ACI is the latest entrant in the list of Bangladesh smartphone brands and with their first line up of devices, seems to be determined to wreak havoc in the market. And its flagship device Stylus 065 is on the forefront. How well does it play, let's find it out:

DESIGN

At first glance, O65 looks premium through and through. However, take it in your hands and the plastic rear will definitely ruin that first impression. Although the O65, with its sharp rectangular frame and flat, minimalistic surface, is definitely a looker with solid builds and design quality.

HARDWARE

Considering the price, the combination of 1.4 GHz Octa core processor with 2 GB RAM and 16 GB internal memory is not bad at all! It comes with Android Kitkat 4.4.2- which is a kind of a let down, but then again, the O65 is in the price range of budget flagships, so this can be looked over.

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!

Cameras on the O65 are standard fares- an 8 MP rear camera with auto focus and HDR and a 2 MP lens in the front for selfies. When HDR is on, the rear camera provides a decent output. However, without HDR, image quality is quite average. The selfie cam on the other hand, despite its 2 MP label, takes pretty good photos!

DISPLAY AND PERFORMANCE

O65 does no lags in the performance quarter. Despite running a whole bunch of apps at the same time and playing power hungry games, performance was relatively smooth and the 5” IPS display did not fail to deliver either. With a 1280x720 resolution and a density of 320 ppi, the O65 offers vivid but grainy image quality. Having said all that, I also must mention that game play does become a little choppy at times.

BATTERY

The O65 comes with a massive 4000 mAh battery which on pen and paper (read: ACI's user manual that came with the box) should be good for 700 hours of standby time or 10-15 hours of continuous talk time on a full charge. Armed with a 98% battery, I ran the phone through a gauntlet of games, apps and then some more games- and not just your average run-for-your-life-through-a-Mayan-temple kind of games; proper, man games with lots of blood and loud cars and also an unhealthy demand for processing power. The 4000 mAh beast did not disappoint at all. After I was done (after a couple hours at least), the battery had lost only 12% charge- way better than what my Moto G can do. The downside is that the rear cover gets a little warm in a short time, and I faced this issue when the phone was charging.

SPECS
Display: 5" HD IPS Display
CPU: 1.4 GHz Octa Core
OS: Android 4.4.2 Kitkat
ROM: 16 GB
RAM: 2 GB
Camera: Rear- 8MP (AF), Front- 2 MP
Battery: 4000 mAh
Sensors: Accelerometer, Light, Hall, Proximity, Gravity etc.
Price: Tk.12,590/-

VERDICT
The Stylus O65 is a decent phone. Once you account for its price, you can't help but give the phone a nod of approval despite some minor issues like old OS and choppy performance. It has good hardware, decent graphics and is definitely way better than some of the entry level smartphone of international brands. So if you are in the market for a budget device with great specs, you should definitely give the ACI Stylus O65 a try.

PHP FLOAT GLASS INDUSTRIES LTD.

PHP Family always focuses on progress and self-reliance of the country to accelerate economic growth. Manufacturing import substitute product always plays a vital role to contribute in government’s exchequer through saving foreign exchange. This motivation led PHP to another giant venture of setting up the first Float Glass industry in Bangladesh.

In 2004, PHP established its new endeavor PHP FLOAT GLASS INDUSTRIES LTD. in the port city Chittagong with annual production capacity of 40,000 MT (approx. 4.0 million square meters at an average thickness of 4 mm). PHP FGIL has set up with technical assistance from Luoyang Float Glass Technology of China. Clear and colored float glass sheets of PHP have enriched the country’s building construction industry with import substitute products. We offer multiple choices that are environment-friendly and enhance architectural designs.

To accommodate a composite solution for glass products, PHP FGIL has installed a high quality Silver Mirror plant in 2008, using latest technology from China. It produces silver mirror of different sizes and thickness (3 to 8 mm) following the Chinese Industrial Standard P.R.C JC / T871 – 2000. The capacity of Silver Coated Mirror plant is 7, 00,000 Square Meter based on single shift operation.

PHP FGIL has also set up glass processing line and started production of Glass Edging / Beveling / OG Molding / Drilling & Tempered Glass from January- 2012.

PHP Tempered Glass is being produced from latest European Oscillating Tempering furnace with high glass quality for fulfilling the growing market need. Tempered unit production capacity is 74 M2 / Hour with 100% loading surface for 10 mm glass.

Wow

Bangladesh is building “garment villages” to double its already-huge clothing exports

The rapid growth of Bangladesh’s garment industry has been a blessing and a burden to the country.

So invaluable is the industry to Bangladesh that the country is doubling down on the business, despite the repercussions. Already the world’s second largest exporter of clothing by some estimates, Bangladesh intends to double its apparel exports to $50 billion by 2021.

Bangladesh commerce minister, Tofail Ahmed, announced the plan last week, including the creation of a “garment village” in the southeastern port city of Chittagong—a major export hub—to help the country hit its goal.

That village follows on one already under construction in the city of Bausia, being funded by a state-owned Chinese firm. The Bausia village is expected to house more than 200 factories and contribute up to $5 billion in export value.

Bangladesh wants to double its clothing exports by 2021

Currently factories in these cities tend to be spread around in an unplanned manner, which makes them hard to monitor, and they can spring up wherever space is available, including in decrepit, unsafe buildings. In Bausia, factories that don’t currently comply with regulations will be moved to the villages, where workplace, health, and fire safety regulations can be enforced. Plans for the Bausia village even include facilities for medical treatment, proper waste disposal, and day care, which is critical given that about 80% of Bangladesh’s garment workers are women, and they tend to be entirely responsible for child care.

Government plans for a garment village have apparently been floating around since as early as 2005.

The US, which is the largest importer of garments from Bangladesh, has thrown its support behind the country’s target of doubling exports and the Chittagong plan. Marcia Bernicat, the US ambassador to Bangladesh, called it “an ambitious, but very possible goal” and said it demonstrates “that business success goes hand-in-hand with workers’ rights and safety.” The US will reportedly join with two Bangladeshi banks in offering a $22 million credit guarantee on loans to help improve safety in garment factories.
