Really? You seem very knowledgeable on this matter. How is the selection process supposed to work?
Quite simply.. the names shortlisted are already on merit.
The final decision rests with the President and Ministry of defense.

The prez can only choose from five names? Can he review their records independently and in detail? Is there no parliamentary approval required?Quite simply.. the names shortlisted are already on merit.

The more important thing is he is the core commander of Karachi and there he did a great job to control the violence,
oh is it ... this sisy guy did a good job in controlling , huh these fuckers are a part of it
Thats what i said he did his job in Karachi which makes his resume acceptable.
You know what i mean
Mikkix, well obviously all the five candidates are top class and have got strong reasons to be elected.Hello Guys..
My question is very simple who will be the next army chief??
I personally think Lt. general Zaheer ul Islam will be the best or the preferred contender because he has a good relation with Kiyani and have a same thinking cap like pasha is wearing.
The more important thing is he is the core commander of Karachi and there he did a great job to control the violence, but the most important thing is he has a good relation with most of the parties and doing a good job for Kiyani to watch the political agenda of the party as well as the external threats...
Cheeers..
New Recruit
Wouldn't it be an advantage to have a committee of lets say 3 to form a quorum in making primary decisions. This would result in Pakistan benefiting from the experience of all 3 gentleman we have mentioned above. The position is so so important and we could do with every bit of brain matter we could put together?
Thanks for the info on how long the term is. Needless to say the appointment of one of the most important jobs in Pakistan's history will be not taken easily and lets hope the right man is promoted - as it will be paramount in Pakistan's future.
No i think he may not become COAS, because there are little politics too in the army.
Major NAushad Kiyani has no chance i believe.
General Asfandyar Pataudi has better chance and have good relations with US so he has more chance to take the position
