Let's not blame everything on politicians. If the chief lacks what it takes to stand up to the pressure by corrupt politicians and appoints people according to the whims and wishes of the corrupt politicians and can't take a stand despite heading the most powerful institution, it is his fault and not the politicians'.

Lieutenant General Rizwan Akhtar, who has served as the director general of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), has “requested for premature release due to some pressing personal commitments”, according to sources.

Lt Gen Akhtar, who has also served as director general Rangers Sindh, is currently President of the National Defence University in Islamabad.

“I want everyone knowing me to respect my decision and not succumb or resort to speculation in any domain,” he was quoted as saying by sources in his resignation sent to army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa. “I shall be available for any service in the army whenever needed.”

He further said that he has taken the decision with a “heavy heart but with great satisfaction” to “hang my uniform on 9th October 2017 after close to 35 years of dedicated active commissioned service”.

Army chief hails ISI for ‘strengthening national security’

Lt Gen Rizwan added that he would like to place on record his sincere gratitude for all his seniors, comrades and staff, including his family, who had provided constant guidance to him throughout his long career.

He said it was a matter of great pride and honour for him to have served the army of this great nation.

Lt Gen Rizwan was commissioned in the Army’s Frontier Force Regiment in September 1982. According to the ISPR, he is a graduate of Command and Staff College Quetta and the National Defence University (NDU) Islamabad.

He also went to the United States for a war course. Lt Gen Rizwan has also commanded an infantry brigade and division in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) and also served as DG Rangers Sindh and director general of the ISI.

Let's not forget the forest for the trees here. The Army is on a roll here. I mean, Ashraf Ghani wants to come to Pakistan with his family. I don't know what magic the COAS worked, but if we can de-escalate in the West, we will be more powerful in the East. Let's not forget Karzai's statement where he says India shouldn't get involved in America's bigger game. The Afghans may be coming to their senses.

f the chief lacks what it takes to stand up to the pressure by corrupt politicians and appoints people according to the corrupt politician's the wishes and can't take a stand despite heading the most powerful institution, it is his fault and not the politician's.

Agree to most part of it; however, in my opinion not the chief but the institution didn't supported his employee. Among lots of other dilemmas of Pakistan, the one being one of the top is that individuals are the one making policies instead of the institutions. Hence, no one, including politicians, take any institute seriously. Remember speech of Zardari? "aap na yahan 3 saal rahna hai aus ka baad ap na chala jana hai hum na hamesha rehna hai" All it takes is to change the head of any institute to a person of your choice and it's done. PA i believe is a bit of an exception to this general rule. But the way institute have changed it's policies since the change of command, i am very disappointed.
