Washington: The US government has misplaced the original recording of the first moon landing, including astronaut Neil Armstrong’s famous “one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind,” a Nasa spokesman said.
Armstrong’s famous space walk, seen by millions of viewers on July 20, 1969, is among transmissions that Nasa has failed to turn up in a year of searching, spokesman Grey Hautaloma said.
“We haven’t seen them for quite a while. We’ve been looking for over a year and they haven’t turned up,” Hautaloma said. The tapes also contain data about the health of the astronauts and the condition of the spacecraft. In all, some 700 boxes of transmissions from the Apollo lunar missions are missing, he said. “I wouldn’t say we’re worried — we’ve got all the data. Everything on the tapes we have in one form or another,” Hautaloma said.
Nasa has retained copies of the television broadcasts and offers several clips on its Web site.
But those images are of lower quality than the originals stored on the missing magnetic tapes.
Because Nasa’s equipment was not compatible with TV technology of the day, the original transmissions had to be displayed on a monitor and re-shot by a TV camera for broadcast.
Hautaloma said it is possible the tapes will be unplayable even if they are found, because they have degraded significantly over the years — a problem common to magnetic tape and other types of recordable media.
The material was held by the National Archives but returned to Nasa sometime in the late 1970s, he said.
“We’re looking for paperwork to see where they last were,” he said.
Space programme veterans believe the original tracking station recordings are stored somewhere at Nasa’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. Telephone calls to Nasa and Goddard spokesmen were not immediately returned.
“I would simply like to clarify that the tapes are not lost as such, which implies they were badly handled, misplaced and are now gone forever. That is not the case,” said operations scientist John Sarkissian. AGENCIES

Yes I also did hear. I have a some stuff over these allegations. you know the points these people make about 'Moon landing' being fake. And it looks quite convincing at time.

One thing is really strange, although. The FACT that USA never tried to make it again. Although they are space walking almost every weekend.

It's because it costs so much money mate, without any return.
I mean apart from the PR value there's no point in going there and won't be for at least another 50 years.
Look at it this way, Columbus 'discovers' America in 1492, the pilgrims don't start to colonize until 1620. The moon landings were before their time, there's currently no need to go back.

Exploration do not mean to go to MARS. There are no returns from there as well. Atleast not now. What would have been better to understand the part of the moon that is invisible to us. They are exploring galaxies millions of light year away and ignoring the backyard where they actually 'LANDED'?
It beats every logic and reasoning man !

Look at it this way, Columbus 'discovers' America in 1492, the pilgrims don't start to colonize until 1620. The moon landings were before their time, there's currently no need to go back.

Also the U.S. had vegetation, water and the requisite environment to support human life. Mars can be observed with telescopes and it is a wasteland. If U.S. is so concerned about revegetation and colonisation, why not convert the large desersts of U.S. green first? It would be cheaper as well.

At the time they dismissed the idea of a far-side landing because they'd be out of contact for the duration of their stay. There's no point in sending MEN to Mars or anywhere else for that matter, machines work much better for a fraction of the cost.
The Apollo Landing were purely PR, and very effectively so too. Sure, what science they did was great, but hardly worth the enormous risk involved. Another 50 years and we'll have reason to go there again, but now? Nope.

No bite in your argument dear. When whole of the earth can be covered by three Geo-stationary satellites, moon can be covered as well. It is basic aeronautical engineering.

I was meant to say, i think almost every one knows about him, but no has ever seen or heard about him after his very first mission and after his very first appearance in media. It has been a long time, so then obviously there is some thing fishy.....:what1:
