LAHORE (Web Desk) – Local bike manufacturers have started producing bikes being run on electricity in order to get rid of soaring oil prices.

Two motorbike assemblers in Sahiwal city of Punjab have started working together to manufacture electric motorcycles in Pakistan, reported by BBC Urdu.

As the Petrol prices rising in the country, it has become difficult for most of the middle-class motorbike riders to afford them. It is a need of time for Pakistan to shift to electric vehicles from expensive fuel.

In the last few years, various companies have introduced electric motorbikes in the country. But they could not win public attention because of different reasons. One of them was that they were very costly.

According to the Usman Sheikh, CEO of Auj Technologies, a Lahore-based electric motorcycle company, that they are working on an electric bike which will be budget-friendly. The bike is named after the animal “Jaguar”. Usman Sheikh added that “they are first assemblers of electric bikes in Pakistan, who have designed them locally”.

These electric motorbikes have the same shape and design as ordinary motorcycles, instead of petrol, they run on electric batteries. Manufacturers have not compromised on engine and body parts of the bikes, as they are equipped with very much similar to already available Japanese technology in the market.

Usman Shaikh said that his company has decided to take advantage of the existing ecosystem of gasoline-based motors, while locally developing an electric battery system. He said, “We have designed and assembled controllers, battery management systems (BMSs), chargers, motors, and battery packs,“

The Jaguar electric bike has a range of up to 70km and can be charged in five hours at home or office. The price of the motorcycle is currently set at Rs 88,000 but as claimed by the company CEO, they are trying to reduce the price.

The electric kit of the bike is also available for other normal bikes. As the electric kit is designed keeping locally used gasoline-based Japanese bikes in mind, it is very easy to install the kit on them. Kit will be installed on your bike on monthly installment basses, which will be Rs. 5500 for one year.

Chairman of MS Group, Chaudhry Zahid Chairman said, “If a normal (petrol bike) gives 50 km average, its monthly expenditure will be around Rs 4,000 but the cost of electric bike will be only Rs 500.”

It is pertinent to mention that electric vehicles and electric bikes are common now a day in Europe, China and Japan.

Just hope they have speakers for fake sound for safety.

Electric vehicles is the future, so maybe they should invest in making electric motors/engines instead of engines running on fossil fuel

yara they cnat make a simple wind turbine or solar panel and have regular load shedding and now they want to make electric bikes. This is a nation that cant produce a simple lithium powered flashlight. Future is for eruope and west not pakistan.

.
This is only a success if they can source everything locally from electric motors to batteries.
No no "assemblers" they are useless, we need local tech.

elcectric bike first learn to make real petrol engine.
Electeic bikes are much easier and simple for manufacture and we are already good at manufactyre electrical motors... if we play smart we should skip petrol engines and should working on next generation engines i.e. electric

Are u comparing wind trubine and solar panel with bije ... u have no idea about the technical complexities in solar panel manufacturing or a wind turbine ...

Not for cities like peshawar
Why not ? Range ?

70 km is disappointing specially with 5 hours charging ...

just visit Peshawar once and you will understand what i am saying sir

.
Peshawar is introducing paddle driven bicycles (qr code ones like in China) to link with the metro network (once it gets operational).

However, we need to skip petrol engine tech altogether and work on electric bikes with a range of at least 120 km.

We have 15 million bikes in the country with 3 mill alone in Karachi if I recall correctly.

A factory in hattar is already assembling/manufacturing scooties with 60-90 km range.

We need more localization and higher range.

We also need a giga factory like set up as its output will be key component in Elec bikes/vehicles.

. .
What is that even supposed to mean? Don't drive a car because you don't know how to ride a horse cart yet?
That's some dysfunctional mentality right there...

Pakistanis want to make an electric bike when they cant make simple electronics like a simple electric motor. I tell you why i bought a atta dough machine from Pakistan paid taxes and shipped to uk. When I arrived to England I unwrapped the machine and decided to test first time. I inserted the plug to the socket flicked the switch but nothing happened. So i started to investigate took it part son of
bit ches put fake half a ssed motor in it and had no circuit board.

youtube it not hard but our pak manufacter only care about pesay no quality.

they make rickshaw and it breaks everytime. first they need to make quality tools then quality end products and train staff in quality control checks.

When you have no clue of Pakistan's auto industry than better educate your self first.

Hope they also get 25 years tax free concession.

pakistan doesnt make thier own brand car?
cant make a rickshaw that doesnt break down.
make 125cc bike which is honda copy only assembling it.

pak needs to produce thier own 100 percent quality bike/car and apply extreme quality control. first pak needs to learn how to run a steel mill that is collapsing and imran is offering to china.
