JAMMU: Pakistani army violated the ceasefire twice by firing mortar shells on LoC posts in two sub-sectors of Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, drawing retaliation from Indian forces.

"There were two ceasefire violations by Pakistan last night", defence spokesman Col RK Palta said on Thursday.

There was Pakistani firing along LoC on several Indian forward posts in Hamirpur sub-sector of Poonch district from 9.30 last night, Col Palta said.

They fired automatic weapons and medium mortar shells, he said, adding, "Our troops retaliated effectively and exchanges continued till 10.30pm".

There was no loss of life or injury to anyone in the firing.

Pakistan troops also fired on Indian posts along LoC in Mendhar sub-sector in Poonch district around 10.30pm and it continued till 11pm, Col Palta said, adding the troops retaliated effectively without any casualty.

A senior security official said, "The 2003 Indo-Pak ceasefire has become meaningless. There is daily firing these days as was witnessed before 2003".

The 225-km long LoC in Poonch-Rajouri sector has witnessed daily firing since August 10 with over 28 ceasefire violations recorded this month.

There have been over 80 ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops this year.

Indian firing on LoC kills Pakistani soldier – The Express Tribune

RAKH CHAKRI: A Pakistani soldier was killed as a result of Indian firing along the Line of Control on Thursday, Express News reported.
The incident occurred at 11:50am in the Rakh Chakri area close to Rawla Koth. The soldier was identified as Habib.

This incident followed the resolution against the unprovoked firing from the Indian army on the Line of Control that was passed in a session of the National Assembly earlier today.

This is the second time this week that the Indian army has started firing without provocation.

An officer was killed and a soldier was wounded by Indian firing along the disputed border in Kashmir on Tuesday in the Batal, Nakyal areas near Skardu.

The Pakistani army retaliated by firing as well. The exchange of bullets continued until 2am on Wednesday.

The Indian Army also violated the ceasefire along the Line of Control on Sunday, shelling civilian areas on the Pakistani side of the ceasefire line, according to residents and military sources.

Residents said the shelling from the Indian side had cut off villages in the Nakyal sector, leading to food and medicine shortages in the area. They added that they were also unable to shift the injured to Kotli for treatment.

Cross border violations from the Indian side had earlier injured three people in the locality.

Tension has been running high along one of the world’s most militarised borders in Kashmir since August 6 when five Indian soldiers were ambushed and killed while on a patrol.

No Pakistani channel is reporting it nor ISPR has told about it so seems incorrect
