Load-shedding duration decreases across Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The shortfall of electricity has decreased as the fuel supply to private power plants has improved, DawnNews reported on Sunday.

In the wake of this development, the announced load-shedding in urban areas will last for eight to 10 hours, while rural areas will face outages for16 hours.

PEPCO sources said that the fuel supply has improved and the short fall between supply and demand has been reduced to 3,600 megawatts.

Sources also claim to reduce unannounced load-shedding in the country, and stated that in next 24 hours, the duration of power-outages in the urban and rural areas will decrease to six and eight hours.

Sources further said that the government has announced Rs.82 billion term finance certificates to ease the debts of private power plants. This step will help reduce load shedding further, they stated.

It varies from state to state. I heard in Chennai, there is 2 hours power cut. In Kerala its half hour for all. Don't know about other states but I heard UP & Bihar have severe power shortage.

Quite a no. of years back(10-15 yrs. may be), I saw a news in our local news paper regarding power-cut in New York....it said....the power cut happened after 10 years....then I wondered, a child in New York less than 10 yrs old(at that time) doesn't know what a power-cut is....
Technically they don't have what we call load-shedding....as there is no shortage of power.....they stop power supply temporarily due to Hurricane warning or maintenance....

If you see Capital talk of the Thursday that has just passed, one MQM minister said that Power shortages are due to non payments/defaults, govt have not payed but pocketed that money. He also claimed that the power issue will be solved within 1 hour if govt announce to pay all defaults, further more he say that PPP govt will pay all dues before November(till the end of this year) to have "something solid" for upcoming elections.
