What's new

live webcast of Narendra Modi’s speech from Madison Square Garden in New York

He is a huge crowd puller for NRIs for sure. I knew a of Indians couple that went to see him.. And Indians on FB were certainly aware. :D

.
I don't think Biden was there.

Personally I think the speech lacked substance. Only the last few minutes were real substantive, rest of it were usual rhetoric that we have heard many times before.
Maybe not.....

I saw someone arriving with a lot of security that looked like Biden- must've got wrong.

waste of NRI money if genocidal Modi does not ditch the non alignment.

. . .

. . .
20 billion from china and 30-40 from japan is not much...
He secured that within 4 months of becoming PM or roughly 6% of his term (provided he only serves 1). Not bad for a few months' work at all...

You think that's the last of it? More fool you....

Now let's see what the US is willing to share.....

. .
That's 50% of Bangladesh's annual GDP or more than 25% of Pakistan's
That hardly says anything.

He could have secured more. The foundation was laid down by the UPA government, not to forget the geopolitics of the world changed quite greatly after the annexation of Crimea. India is selling itself to the highest bidder, a strategic alliance is imminent.

Subjective and unverifiable statement.

How utterly absurd. I'd love to see an Indo-Japanese-China-US alliance but obviously that isn't about to happen so what the hell are you smoking? India is playing an impressive game and having all sides compete for tis affections, why would the nationalist leader with an unprecedented mandate then go and turn his back on his morals and commit political suicide by aligning itself with any other nation? India walks its own path this is clear to see from the hard push many nations have been making to secure its allegiance but have been rebuffed.

Look dude, I get it, I really do. You want to troll. Well, to each his own but at least troll in a way that makes you look at least half-way smart. Tolling is an art you still need to master.

Modi Announces Lifelong Visas for Indian Diaspora

NEW YORK: Amid cheers from thousands of Indian-Americans, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Saturday announced several measures to ease travel to their motherland including life-long visas.

"Happy?" he asked as the crowd cheered his announcement with chants of "Modi, Modi" at the huge Madison Square Garden community reception for him.

"There is even more to come," he said smilingly as he announced that People of Indian Origin (PIOs) in staying in India for long would not have to report to police. "There is no need for them to do that anymore."

In addition the Indian missions in the US would grant long-term visas to US citizens and US tourists would get visa on arrival in India. Online visas would be introduced and Visa outsourcing services expanded to reduce current problems.

Currently PIO cards, given to those who themselves, their parents or grandparents or their spouse, were one-time Indian citizens, allow for visa-free travel to and from India. However, a PIO card is only valid for 15 years.

Also, if one's stay in India is going to exceed 180 days on any single visit, one needs to register within 30 days of the expiry of 180 days with the concerned Foreigners Regional Registration Officer/Foreigners Registration Officer or local police authorities.

On the other hand, the Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) card given to only those who themselves or their parents were one time citizens, has lifelong visa-free travel and does not require the holder to register with any office regardless of the length of their stay.

Eventually the PIO and OCI schemes will be combined in a new scheme and also cover spouses.

Reminding the audience that Mahatma Gandhi was an expatriate who returned to India to win freedom for India, Modi said the Pravasi Bhartiya Divas will be held in Ahmedabad next year to mark the event.
