Libyan National Army Shoots Down Own Chinese-made Wing Loong Drones

The Libyan National Army (LNA) led by Khalifa Belqasim Haftar have down two of their own Chinese-built Wing Loong II combat drones supplied to them by the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

“It seems the LNA shot down another of their Wing Loong II UAVs, the second in two days,” Rob Lee, a military expert, tweeted on May 24.

A day earlier, Lee said Haftar’s forces shot down two Turkish-made Bayraktar TB2 drones used by the Government of National Accord (GNA), as well as a Wing Loong II.

Meanwhile, GNA has claimed to have destroyed a number of Haftar’s Pantsir air defense systems and aircraft, including the Wing Loong.

The UAE supplied the Chinese drones and BA-7 air-to-surface missiles to Haftar’s forces sometime after 2011. The BA-7 is ballistically paired to fly with the Wing Loong.

Abu Dhabi has also reportedly bought CH-4 drones from China, considered similar to US’ MQ-9 Reaper, to arm the HAF.

A report by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) states: “Analysis of the capabilities of each UCAV system shows that HAF currently has a significant tactical advantage.”

Chinese Wing Loong II can deliver over eight times the weight of explosive ordnance against ground targets than the GNA-AF Bayraktar TB2. The CUAV is operated using a satellite data link covering all of Libya, and provides HAF with a full offensive capability to achieve local air superiority.

when drone is operating within own territory it not uses techniques to avoid airdefenses so this shot down not means drone quality is bad,also 2 turkish drones were also shot down which performed good recently

Sorry, but are you really comparing Bayraktar TB2 tactical drone with the Chinese MALE IHA? According to which technical data or which cost criteria?

If you look at the LNA social media accounts, they claim that they even sunk a frigate. However, the number of confirmed losses is below 10. So the total loss is equal to a single Pantsir S-1 system. But number of confirmed neutralized Pantsir are over 10,I couldn't remember the exact figure.

This tactic was so efficient that LNA could only lasting 1 month at Watiye base. Then an agreement was made and no air operations have been carried out for two days. Now all Wagner mercenaries and Sudanesse Janjavids are retreat around Tripoli , especially from the Tarhuna region.

The siege of Tripoli, which lasted for a year and a half, has definitely failed. Bayraktar's role in this success of the GNA is undeniable. However, since the PDF is now down to the WAFF level, we cannot get to the point where we can discuss operations tactically.

Three wing long have been shot down in friendly fire.

Turkey's drones have shown a good performance in Libya and I give credit where it goes I just said both have lost drones no intention to compare them ... some sources claimed 14 Bayraktar losses some says more which half of them apparently were not shot down but clashed intact due to technical issues or jamming.

About half of those are not even confirmed, haftar forces make claims and recycle same pics...
