LHC restores license of 24News channel
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday restored license of ‘24News’ channel.

According to details, LHC rejected PEMRA’s plea of issuing stay order on the matter and issued notices to federal government and other respondents.

Earlier, the Pakistan Electronic Media Authority Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on Friday suspended with "immediate effect" television channel 24NewsHD s license for "illegal transmission of news and current affairs content".

These judges are political appointees of PMLN so dont expect much from these judicial turds. Our judiciary needs a serious overhaul otherwise they will stagnant the growth of Pakistan.

Channel 24 is registered as an Entertainment channel with official name Value TV. They are violating rules by not only running Channel under Illegal name but also under entertainment licence. They have been given several notices in the past and action was only taken after they flaunted all the orders to re register them selves.

They have a license to air entertainment programs only. Instead they are airing political talk shows and news. If they want to do that, they can get the news license. PEMRA told them this, and give them 3 months to fix that. They refused. Its like you having a driving license to ride a motorcycle, instead you use it to drive a car around. This has nothing to do with politics. But the media made it one, and people fell of it.

Taking them off the air starved them of funds, constant notices and legal fees bleed them further. If tomorrow this channel kicks Najam Sethi and quits being overly critical of the government, license and whatever other tactic they may come up with next will all end.

There’s no checking buddy. Courts are passive, PEMRA’s goal is achieved. This is just what happens when the matter reaches courts.

Victimisation cases whether they’re NAB, FIA or even PEMRA, they get stay order or case gets thrown out etc. But that’s really it, and only after it reaches the court. There’s no active effort to curtail attempts to limit free speech, of course it’s hard to do too.

Sure could be tax I have no idea of the inside story. Fake news is a pretty grey area, and I don’t think it should be policed, there’s too much motivation there to limit opposing speech. Only place speech should be stopped is if it verges on serious libel or incitement, otherwise UK, US and other countries have plenty of bs spewing news sources that are fully allowed to publish what they want.

Tax is the main reason otherwise i dont see any reason for 24 channel. Its small channel hardly any much following as compare to others out there.

That was your mistake. PERMA for years has been just sitting around. Its a govt organization that takes free money, and doesn't perform any of its duties. In the last 3 years, they got a kick in there behind, and have started working for once.
