So u suggest that the 4th prototype they have developed is perfect for production line for now. :what:

Have patience my friend, P04 will fly by the end of this year, only then we'll talk about production line which could be initiated by the end of 2007.
PAF will integrate western avionics into the Thunder gradually as the initial batch will come with full chinese equipement.

Don't expect JF-17 to be fully operational befor the end of 2008.

Correct!
Don't forget that the project dates back to the eighties as replacement for mig 21's and it should have been operational in 1985!!!! They are 20 years behind the schedule!!!
So its not a new design we're talking about and noway it comes even near JAS-39!

India is now looking for 126 western fighters to close the gap and some mig 21's will be kept in service beyond 2010.
What does that tell us about Tejas?
[post=5898]Quoted post[/post]

If it should have been operational in 1985 (which is quite weired) so then why they r still working on the project as it has already been delayed for 20 years? What they wanna prove? :wall:

The thing is, with the LCA project well on its way, the Indians got news of Jf-17 and how it would be more advanced than its Mig-21s and other mid-tech fighters; so they decided on reveiwing the LCA stats to bring it on par with the Jf-17.

Thats 'one' of the reasons why the project is still dragging on.

So that means they are trying to match Pakistan, but things are still not going their way and they are struggling but doesnt wanna give up.

Yes they were trying to match the Jf-17 but now have issues with the Kaveri engine, the contact of which has been handed to a French firm finally to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

trying to match pakistan and china would be more appropriate.

So it means that they are accepting that Jf-17 is no joke as some quarters were underestimating the air craft earlier

Tryint to match Pakistan and China? How does that make sense? They were making an AC which turned out to be inferior to the one coming out of joint Sino-Pak effort so they decided to manufacture it more on par with the Jf-17 and thats why its still 'work in progress'. Its more about matching capabilities which brings me to the point that PAF must make sure that the F-16s it orders from the US have the AESA radar on board as the MRCA tender for IAF requires that radar to be offered with the AC.

Lca is tailored for IAFs req. It will be purchase when its engine & radar is either mfg indegeniously or from others. Dont worry, lca would be purchased in big volumes, may be upto 500. Its going through teething problems, when they are solved, then it will be in IAF colors.

What engine is the production model JF-17 going to use?
[post=7849]Quoted post[/post]

I think they will use a Russian RD-93 turbofan engine, which is an upgrade of the RD-33 used in the MiG-29 that IAF has.

I also heard that they are considering using indigenously produced WS-13 turbofan.

Rehman,

Russia has refused to supply RD-93 if the end user is going to be Pakistan.Putin or his heir Ivanov are not going to watch China supply Russian engines(names changed, ofcourse!) to Pakistan.

Has a JF-17 flown with a Chinese WS engine,yet?

China has reportedly imported five RD-93s from Russia to power the prototypes, but agreement of further purchase and re-export of the engine in together with the fighter aircraft has yet been reached. China may seek to power the aircraft with an indigenously-developed powerplant.

So no JF-17 has flown with a Chinese Engine so far?

Ivanov went on record stating Russia wont sell the RD series to Pakistan.
Lets hope the Russians change their minds.

We Indians have the same engine problem as well, except that the US might be more than willing to supply the F404's.Hopefully Snecma would help Kaveri flow.

I think we already have a contract with GE for 40 engines.

Neo,

Project Definiton for LCA was initiated in 1987 and completed in Sep'1988.Full Scale engineering development started in 1990 with the approval for a sum Rs.2188 crores for Phase I of the project.

You can read this wonderfull piece on LCA history by Air Marshall.MSDW somewhere in BR.

Now how is the project 20 years behind schedule?

So that means there is " some more" time left before everything is finalised ,right?
