Rescuecom has published its new computer reliability ratings for the third quarter of 2012, and Lenovo has returned to the top spot among manufacturers. The report, based on data collected from the market shares of PC manufacturers and computer support provided by manufacturers, found the Chinese company's products to be the most reliable, followed by Asus, Samsung, Apple, and Toshiba. For the first quarter of 2012, Lenovo topped the ratings but lost the position to Samsung in the second quarter.
Machines from Lenovo accounted only for 2.1 percent of service calls to 1-800-RESCUE-PC, despite the manufacturer's 8.3 percent share of the United States market. ASUS' machines, with a 5.4 percent market share in the US, accounted for three percent of Rescuecom's computer repair contacts. The two companies scored 402 and 180, respectively, on Rescuecom's reliability score.
Samsung's 1.9 percent share of US computers accounted for 1.2 percent of Rescuecom's service calls, netting it a reliability rating of 168.
Apple remained in the fourth place spot for the third consecutive quarter. The Cupertino company's score has improved from 130 points in the last report to 160 points this time around. Its 12.5 percent market share accounted for 7.8 percent of Rescuecom's repair calls.
The other companies listed were, in order, Toshiba, HP, Dell, Acer, and Sony. Sony computers scored the lowest, with a reliability rating of 26.
