BADIN - As a result of torrential monsoon rains over the last few days, a breach developed in the Left Bank Outfall Drain (LBOD), the largest saline nullah of Asia, on Monday, which widened to 200 feet and flooded more than 100 villages in Badin district.
Overflowing and reverse flow in the LBOD could cause more breaches and flooding, a private TV channel reported. The breach has already flooded Mangrio and Malkani, where people have sought refuge on high rocks and roofs of government school buildings. Floodwater inundated a grid station in Pangrio as well.
The authorities concerned have yet to plug the breaches that have flooded a vast area and washed away standing crops on hundreds of thousands of acres of agricultural land. A large number of people are still marooned in remote coastal villages of Badin, with no road link to safer areas. So far thousands of people have been rescued and shifted to relief camps by Pakistan Army and Navy personnel. An estimated 300,000 people have been displaced by the floods across Badin.
Pakistan Army has launched full scale rescue services after establishing an aid centre in Badin and a rescue camp in the Shadi Larj area, where it is trying to provide all possible aid to the displaced people. The district administration claims that more than 90,000 flood victims have been shifted to relief camps. Some 200,000 people have fled Mehrab Chandio, Mukhtar Arain, Mooso, Mataro, Aaarib Halipoto and Ahmadani to higher ground, leaving all or most of their possessions behind.
After India’s spilling of water into the Satluj River, floods are expected in the Kasur area of Punjab as well and local residents are moving towards safer places. The district administration of Kasur has cancelled all workers’ leaves and set up flood relief camps in various areas. The Kasur District administration had held an emergency meeting headed by the district coordination officer (DCO) on Sunday afternoon after receiving information that 50,000 to 70,000 cusecs of water would be released from the Indian Bhagra Dam within the next 24 hours, most probably on Monday night. Villages near the river were evacuated as the district administration put out a red alert, warning them of low floods expected late on Sunday night. Kasur DCO Irshad Hussain Shah told Pakistan Today that the administration would complete all arrangements on Sunday night and officials of police, Revenue and Irrigation Departments were prepared to meet any situation.
Meanwhile, the Met Office predicted more rainfall in most parts of the country for another two to three days.

Army relief operation underway in Sindh flood-hit areas
The rescue and relief operation initiated by the Pakistan Army is underway in the flood affected areas of Badin and Tando Muhamad Khan located in interior Sindh.

(Read: Relapse: Over a million people in six districts affected by flood, says CM)

Life is at a standstill in Badin and Tando Muhammad Khan as the land route is still cut-off with the rest of the province due to inundation, however, 300 more stranded people have been shifted to safer points in Gaangu Goli area of Tando Muhammad Khan through boats.

On the other hand, about 45 thousand people have been settled in 177 camps set up by the district administration.

Reportedly, 30 villages were inundated in the Khattiyan area after torrential downpours.

Meanwhile, the army medical camp has been set up in Ali Akber Rind area, where free medicines are provided to people.

So far, 375 patients have been given medicines for free, however, Samina, 40, and a three year old girl died because they were not provided with medical aid at the relief camp in Pangriu village.

The army has also provided boats to National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in the affected areas.

Earlier, the Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah declared Badin and Tando Muhammad Khan as calamity-hit areas.

Situation in River Ravi and Sutlej

Dozens of villages and thousands of acres of crops have been flooded as low-level flooding persisted in the Ravi River near Mian Channu.

The flash floods in Ravi have affected several populations.

A flood warning has been issued for the area of Vehari.

The administration has not yet reached the affected areas for rescue and relief operations.

On the other hand, the rise in water in Sutlej River is causing a hazard to the residents of Qasur and its suburbs.

The flood victims say that the executive engineer had ordered the closure of Head Sidhnai which caused the river to overflow.

Flood Warning Centre said that the latest release of water coming from Indian downstream that pours into Sutlej River is expected to reach Head Islam by Thursday.

There are no doubts that whenever the people of Pakistan need Army is always there. People criticize PA for its interference in political process i.e. by taking over the Govts. but it is us who give army reason to interfere. Just look at the subject thread. We are still unable to make consensus on building dams in our country, it was and will remain controversial issue.

The recent floods which resulted in loss of trillions to Pakistan economy, could be avoided if we had big dams to store all the flood / rain water. But we need something to fool our people all the time. Now massive aid will come and go to swiss accounts. But what army does in these natural calamities can be seen by everyone. Long live Pakistan Army :pakistan::pakistan:

.
Well Pakistan Forces are always known to be top branch that comes out in full force to protect people of Pakistan

.
2 thumbs up to ARMY ,, thats great work helping the flood victims esp when the local political leadership is no where to be found.

.
In the end it will always be the Armed Forces that will come to your aid.
The department of Irrigation, Civil Defence and Disaster Management should be over-seeing and running this entire operation.
However, these people are only good pocketing money and taking bribes.
Another slap on the face of anyone who says that we invest too much into the military, with respect to the services they render for the nation, I would say we invest too little. They might as well have the money spent on the above stated bodies added to their budget, at least it will be put to some constructive use and not for building some "Bigshot's" house even bigger.

Pak Fauj Zindabad,
Pakistan Pa-Indabad!
