Lucknow: Shagufta Shah, a mother of two and a 'triple talaq' victim from Lucknow, has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to abolish the 'evil Islamic tradition' at the earliest.

Reports said on Wednesday that Shah decided to write to the Prime Minister about her ordeal after she was 'disowned' by her husband when she refused to abort her third child.

In her letter, Shah spoke eloquently about the pain she was subjected to when she became pregnant for the third time and how her husband Shamshad Sayeed wanted her to terminate the pregnancy, fearing that the third born may also be a girl.

The lady from Saharanpur got little help from the police and decided to approach none other than the Prime Minister himself for help.

Shah, who took inspiration from fellow Saharanpur resident Atiya Sabri, said, '' I wrote a letter to PM Modi requesting him to abolish 'triple talaq'. I voted for him, I hope to get justice now.''

"Mr Prime Minister, it is my humble request to please help this poor and helpless woman. I also request you to ensure that this evil tradition ends so that woman like me and other victims get justice and live a dignified life," she had written in the letter.

A copy of the letter has also been sent to UP CM Yogi Adithyanath, District Magistrate and the National Commission for Women.

If triple talaq is termed illegal, then soon Islam would cease to exist: AIMPLB to Supreme Court
The 'triple talaq' is a Sharia law practice which allows men to end a marriage simply by saying 'talaq' to their wives three times in succession.

While many Muslim-majority countries such as Pakistan and Indonesia have outlawed the custom for years, India -home to the world's third-largest Muslim population- continues to allow it.

Narendra Modi-led BJP has recently turned focus to the evil tradition and called for the implementing the Uniform Civil Code despite intense criticism from the Muslim bodies.

The heartbreaking plight of India's widows: How women are kicked out of their homes and shunned by society after their husbands die

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2316493/The-heartbreaking-plight-Indias-widows-How-women-kicked-homes-shunned-society-husbands-die.html

If You’re an Indian Widow, Your Children Could Kick You Out and Take Everything

Losing a husband in India forces many women into a life of begging and destitution, and despite the country's development little is being done to change things

The verandah of the Bihari temple, in Radhakund, a few kilometers away from the Hindu temple town of Vrindavan, comes alive with chants and grateful ululations at 11 o’clock every morning as widows in white saris eat free meals of lentils and rice. “If not for this meal, I would go hungry most days,” says Shakti Dasi, a widow from the northeastern Indian state of Tripura.

Dasi is among the 500 women who eat at the temple kitchen, run by Delhi-based nonprofit, Maitri. Vrindavan and Radhakund are home to around 15,000 widows, most of whom were driven from their homes by family members. “In our country, when women become widows, they cease to exist,” says Winnie Singh, executive director and co-founder of Maitri. “It is a failure not only of the government but of society at large.”

Consider Dasi. The 66-year-old has been on her own for three decades, forced out years ago, she says, by her own sons. “If I asked for money, they would beat me,” she said. She eventually signed away her rights to the small grocery store she ran and set out on a one-way pilgrimage to Vrindavan. Illiterate and unskilled, Dasi, like most widows in Vrindavan and Radhakund, sings religious songs for many hours a day, earning less than a dollar, or sometimes some food. Her ankles are bruised purple-black from standing for hours during the hymns and chants.

It is striking that in the 30 years since Dasi fled, not much has changed for India’s widows. A recent report in the Wall Street Journal examined the harsh life awaiting Punita Devi, the wife of Akshay Kumar Singh, one of the man who has been sentenced to death for raping and murdering a 23-year-old paramedic intern in Delhi last December. Singh hasn’t been hung yet, but Devi’s in-laws have already refused to look after her. Her own parents say they are too poor to take her back.

Looks like the source you are quoting is highly misinformed

Section 10 in The Hindu Succession Act, 1956 talks about the distribution of property in situation husband dies intestate and says that distribution of property shall take place among the heirs in class I of the Schedule wherein the Rule 1 specifically states that the intestate’s widow, or if there are more widows than one, all the widows together shall take one share.

For instance, if husband dies intestate and is survived by two widows and a son, heirs in Class I shall take the property simultaneously and to the exclusion of all others. Here according to the provisions of Rule 1 of section 10, both the widows of the husband shall take one-half share in the property of the husband and the other half shall go to his son.

In situation a husband dies intestate leaving two widows and no sons, both of them shall inherit the property equally, i.e. both of them shall be entitled to one-half share, there being no other Class I heir.

so laws are already in place to take care of the Hindu widows.

now its time for empowerment of Muslim women in our Indian society.

More power to BJP
