LCA Tejas fires R-73 missile

Drop tanks which will enhance the Tejas’ endurance capabilities have been fitted but having sprung a leak they are currently non-operational.

Every country spent as much as time when they make something of their own for the first time. The duration and the cost is usual for first time since, it involves setting up required infrastructure. We will able to do it better with this experience gained in future.

We have enough resources to "learn by experiments".

Lets stop feeling sad about "lot os time spend" etc etc.
LCA development started in 1990. So far it has spend 17 years.Which is well within any aircraft development program, specially for a nation which missed a generation when it comes to building aircraft.

Google out and find out the time taken to by aerospace majors in the west to develop their aircrafts.

According to,
STANDING COMMITTEE ON DEFENCE
(FOURTEENTH LOK SABHA)
MINISTRY OF DEFENCE
DEMANDS FOR GRANTS
(2007-2008)
LCA
5.11 The Committee further note that the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) project was conceived way back in 1987 and Full Scale Engineering Development (FSED) - Phase I started in 1991. The Committee are constrained to note that even after 15 years of its initiation, the project has not been able to see the light of the day. The Committee also note that the project of Kaveri engine which is being developed indigenously and expected to power LCA has also no indication of its completion. The Committee are dismayed to note that only structure of the LCA has so far been completed. The Committee take a very serious note of it and strongly recommend that the Ministry should strictly fix deadline for the completion of the two projects. If the deadlines are not met, HAL should enter into joint venture / collaboration with private firms and R&D organisations which have attained capability to design and develop such engine. The Ministry should also ensure closer participation of Air Force in these projects.

The Thunder can fire the PL-12, which is equivalent of the US AIM-120B AMRAAM :D

The PL-12 is already better than the R-77. I'm only comparing because the Thunder is the plane the LCA would be going up against with the R-73 missile.

Actually the more interesting question has to be in regards to the radar used in the launch.......or was it a simple electrical test of the firing mechanism? Or a test of the pylon structure of the wing.

I am thinking it will be some Russian radar (TOT in India), because of the missile launched.

lca Pv-1 did not carry any radar on board ,from where did Russian radar came in ?? lca will get Indian made MMR with Israeli nodes for A2G operations while development of AESA version of MMR is under development
