With Indian Air Force coming aboard and placing orders for Updated Tejas Mk.1A based on MK-1 air frame which will now come equipped with AESA fire control radar of Israeli origins, along with In-flight refueling probe and Electronic Support Measures (ESM) which will be carried externally in a pod instead of within fuselage will be available for testing from 2017 According to Dr S Christoper Chief of DRDO.

Dr S Christoper speaking to Vayu Aerospace and Defence Review has confirmed that proposed LCA Mk.II which will come with General Electric F414-GE-INS6 engines generating 98 kN thrust along with lengthened fuselage will no be ready before 2024.

DRDO Chief did not confirm if he was talking about Naval Variant or Air force variant but a recent statement made by IAF chief Air Chief Marshal Raha who while speaking to media said: ” As of now we are not interested in MK-II ” is leading to the lack of clarity on Air-forces participation in LCA Mk.II.

Well-informed sources close to idrw.org in an earlier report (READ:Tejas MK-II needs to evolve into a better platform for IAF: Source) had put a timeline of 2025 for first Naval LCA Mk.II to be ready for the test flight and IAF is clearly sitting on the fence when it comes to the development of MK-II and has instead placed orders for 106 Tejas Mk.1A till Mk.II becomes a reality.

ADA agreed to buy eight General Electric F404-GE-IN20 power pack with an option of licence building 99 additional engines in India which can go up to 500-600 units if IAF agrees to place orders for another Batch of 106 LCA Mk.II after the production run for Mk.1A is completed at similar timeline when LCA Mk.II is expected to be ready.

LCA Mk.II’s rear fuselage will need re-engineering to accommodate the heavier engine, thereby altering the fighter’s air dynamics, ADA is at an advanced stage of final design review of the jet so as to stabilize it after complex alterations which are leading to a time-consuming job at hand for ADA.

the Indian version of a super Mirage 2000

why oh why didn't you just buy the rights to build the Mirage 2000 and pimp it out.

2024 is when AMCA needs to fly.

Parrikar are you listening. Offload LCA MK II from DRDO and hand it over to HAL. ..........ASAP. ..... and don't forget to FUND it.

There's no point pursuing a 4.5th gen fighter post 2020, abandon the Mk II, and induct 150-200 odd Mk 1A, and redirect all the funds towards AMCA and FGFA.

R&D is very important part in growth of Technology Know-how. Let them try with Mk.II.

How much it will cost to our exchequer ! maximum $ 2-3 billions. I believe we can afford it. Tejas is our home grown project whatever money we invest on it. That will come back to us. same don't apply to Rafael or PAKFA there are limitations.

It will be delayed by 5-7 years

If we had rival companies like boeing vs northrop they would strive to get it out faster into prodn. But unfortunately we dont have this luxury so DRDO can take it for granted. What makes you think AMCA or FGFA would not run into same issue?

All of india hard cash and supa pawa talks are on F-16 threads but when on tejas and rafeal threads they only talk about discounts and more time needed.

F-16V Is Latest 'Viper' Variant for Fighter Market | Defense Media Network
The F-16's official name is "Fighting Falcon", but "Viper" is commonly used by its pilots and crews, due to a perceived resemblance to a viper snake as well as the Battlestar Galactica Colonial Viperstarfighter.[7][8]
