FACT-CHECKING: Missile shown by Indian generals appears to be one sold to Taiwan

KARACHI:

As New Delhi presented what it claimed was ‘incontrovertible proof’ that Pakistan used its F-16 fighter jets in Wednesday’s air action, a fact-checking exercise by The Express Tribune revealed that the missile remains the Indian military found could belong to a missile sold by the US to Taiwan.

India’s top military brass on Thursday displayed the remains of an American-made missile as ‘absolute proof’ that the Pakistan Air Force used F-16s in aerial operations conducted the day before. Claiming that the missile could only have been launched by an F-16, the Indian generals tried to strengthen their claims that the Indian Air Force also shot down a PAF F-16 while losing a MiG-21.

The wreckage displayed by the Indian generals identified the missile as an AIM-120C-5 AMRAAM. Markings on the wreckage also identified the contract serial number of the missile as FA8675-05-C-0070.

A Google search The Express Tribune ran using the keyword ‘AMRAAM’ along with the serial number in question returned links to a US Department of Defense (DoD) document titled “Report to Congress on Department Of Defense Sales of Significant Military Equipment to Foreign Entities Fiscal Year 2009”.

The report revealed that contract number FA867505C0070 corresponded to a batch of AIM-120C-5 AMRAAM missiles supplied to Taiwan in a Foreign Military Sale worth $2.38 million.

It should be noted that Pakistan does not recognise Taiwan as a separate entity from the People’s Republic of China and as such, does not have any diplomatic or consular relations with Taiwan.

How the wreckage of a missile sold to Taiwan ended up in the hands of an Indian military air vice marshal is something only New Delhi can explain.

A version of the report can be found on the official website of the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment. It can be accessed via the following link:

I know this is hilarious and stupid but you should think what were they trying to achieve with this press conference. Keeping their media immaturity in mind is their any chance that this PC drama was staged for future aggression. I mean with their media dancing on the tunes of politicians their armed forces are going to present themselves as victim and will put another show for revenge just to save face. Which can escalate things to whole new level.

.
Amraam is a bvr missile and is supposed to be fired at longer range targets and if a dogfight occurred in Indian J &K then it must have been a wvr encounter in which it would be more appropriate to use sidewinder missiles.

Also what happened to the target it hit or it just missed and blew away which would be amazing for an American missile.

I don't want to disrupt peace efforts but Indian Generals showing remains of AIM-120C5 AMRAAM missile is more of like a rape victim displaying used condom as an evidence to strengthen her case next day!:cray::laughcry::laughcry::omghaha:

That was brutal of you!

Honestly, if this helps stop a war then so be it. I wish this assuages their anger and life goes on. Maybe PAF finds one of those old crashed F16 debris, paint the pilots' blood in the cockpit, and smuggles across the LoC to the Indians secretly, and carry out a couple of fake funerals of the dead pilots...

Mujhe Lagta hai ki Hamaari force bhi ab raajneeti karna chahte hai... Aapko kabhi bhi Ye sab nahi karna chahiye sir... Kyunki hame hamesha se hi aap jaise logon par Garv rahaa hai, Garv hai, aur Garv rahega.....jai hind...

Even if it is to be believed the Indian POV that the Amraam missile is used by Pakistan F-16, how can it be proved that the fighter crashed...more probable is that F-16 fired the missile and took the shot(on military installation), isn't this should be the SOP.
This is hilarious on Indian part. The crashed thing was a missile...a missile is always supposed to hit and crash.

Why all three forces are together ......is it good for India's democracy ?? Why did Army personals injected into politics ???

They just want to make a case that f-16s were used to intrude into india.

While our armed forces say f-16 were not used for intruding. Or bombing.

No sane person in the world believes in the crap and lies coming out this Hindu Fascist ruled nation.

@Joe Shearer ... it seems the state of your armed forces is terrible and we thought it was only bad.

But we know such laughable pressers are for the majority in India who are gullible as anything.

Pak has fooled India, who were definitely relying on Pentagon/Israil, by not using F-16s!!!! Their scripts were written based on the downed PAF F16s.....

F16s are good for air-shows!!! Better to use micro-UAVs than these for real ops...

They had ISraeli F16's come over for exercises many times. Little wonder they can present a few blown up or functional AMRAAM's....
Turkey has learnt the hard way - F16s aren't for life-or-death ops...

f-16s are very good as long as united states is on your side.

We know for a fact that lockheed martin has given engine heat signatures of f-16 engines belonging to f-16s of turkey jordan pakistan etc to enmies like israel and india . they do it when we don't behave according to american wishes .

Which is our own fault why use their weapons. United states is unwrothy of trust and cant be reloed upon as a weapon supplier. Too many strings attached.

U think indian tejas would be safe with united states engines and israeli avionics?

Most unreliable people are united states. Mainly because of interest doesnt match with their interest.

Our own fault if we rely upon them thinking they are reliable.

I Don't think we will get any american aircraft in our inventory cuz we know what they do.

Can u beleive that they said don't use f-16 and our weapons against india...

We didn't buy them for show.

.
Latest news is that they shot down two F-16 not just one LOL

now lockhead is worried LMAO if F16 can be shot down by Mig21

I don't which is funnier;

It took 48 hours to get AIM 120 C5 from US. Thank you US for facing saving India

India may have picked this AIM 120C from India, which means it was fired at them and it downed on if their Su-30s. It doesn't say F-16 was crashed.
